8/2: Open Rainiers Thread
The M's are off, so the Rainiers are on, tonight at 7pm. With Michael Pineda on the hill, and Justin Smoak, Matt Mangini, Greg Halman, and Dustin Ackley all in the lineup, there's more hope there than there is up here.
Note that Josh Lueke should be available to throw today too after taking yesterday off.
Reno has one player in its lineup today who is younger than 26.

Does anyone else get a waiting for video message box when they click on the Tacoma audio link?

Weird.
I’ve tried the Tacoma feed half a dozen times this year and it always gives me a video message. Listening to Reno right now :(
Strange
This is the first time I’ve used it. It opened up Windows Media Player and started playing audio right away. Oh the soothing voice of Curto… Is the Reno broadcast not that good?

I have the same problem.
It’s not as big of a deal, as I can just turn on a radio, but I’m glad it’s not just me. I’ll tell them about this – not sure if this is a problem with MiLB.com or the Rainiers.

Yes. Very.
It’s pretty damned massive. CF is 425 away and has a huge wall, so only 2 hitters have ever hit one out to CF. The alleys are deep and the weather make it really tough to hit HRs. It also increases Ks.
Every once in a while, the wind blows straight out, but unless it’s doing that, it takes work to get a home run.
Pulling double duty!

by Bearskin Rugburn on Aug 2, 2010 8:02 PM PDT up reply actions
Used to be the former, now it's more the latter.
He’s been pretty solid in the games I’ve seen. He’s got more speed than you’d expect and that helps make up for some so-so jumps. This play was just terrible luck.
He used to be known as a true defensive black hole, like Victor Diaz bad. He’s not, at least not anymore. But that’s obviously damning with very faint praise.
Still good to hear about a guy with a big bat and a medical file like the OED

It's hard with the Mariners so hopeless,
to then turn on a Tacoma game and see them losing to and forget the context. But I think they can come alive here yet.
I try and take some solace in our AAA team being loaded with prospects

If they were’nt good friends, that would be an interesting coincidence.

Man,
I’m following the Rainiers from now on. I don’t remember the last time I was this relaxed listening to a ballgame.
I'll be honest, given a choice between a MLB game and a minor-league game
I’ll take the minor league game.
For the price of a seat in a ML park, you could go see a minor league game and live like a king. Better bang for the buck and a much better chance of meeting a player and chatting with them if you’ve got a seat close to the dugout.
