But what does this do to our chances to get the first pick in the 2011 draft and therefore hold the right to select a player who might be nominally better than the player available with the second pick, or third pick, or fourth pick, or even perhaps, the FIFTH PICK!!

There's not a Strasburg/Harper type #1 (Renton's great, but not that great), so why worry?
Nothing will ever compare to the season ending sweep of the A’s a couple year back. That was truly devastating. This…meh.
A lot of people would have taken Rendon over Harper. I don't care about the first pick, but I would like to land
one of the Top 3 or Top 5. I don’t get much out of these wins these days where guys like Kotchman, Pauley, and Bard are having success.
It's still nice to see guys like Pauley get their first win or Bard hit their first grand slam.
A win feels better than a loss and there’s not that big a difference between pick no. 3 and pick no. 7. Who cares who did what? I’m happy to see these fringe players have their moments, they’re still people and they are still Mariners.

Although I like to cushion the blow of losing with the consolation that we move up draft picks, it's much more fun to win.
And somehow 92 or 93 losses feels way, way better than 97-100+ losses.
And like you said, there’s not that big of a difference between #3 and #7. Weird shit happens after the first 1 or 2 picks, which are generally a consensus.
