OFFTOP 7/26/10 - Looking to the Past

It's Monday morning and our last OFFTOP is about to hit the magic 1,000-comment mark, so here's a nice fresh OFFTOP with a new set of prompts. This time, the prompts have a historical bent:

  1. In which historical era would you want to live? Or if living is too big a commitment, which would you want to visit?
  2. If you could travel to the past, would you work your knowledge of future events to generate huge profits? What would be your preferred method?
  3. If you could bring any object into the past to blow people's minds, what would it be?
  4. What is the most dramatic thing any of your ancestors has done?
  5. What's your favorite classic movie? (pre-1970)
  6. If you could live through a historic sports season first-hand, with no pre-knowledge of what would happen, which league, team, and season would you choose?
  7. What are your favorite fashions from the past? Do you prefer 1980s pastel? 1970s tie-dye? 1910 broadcloth?
  8. Do you have a favorite little-known and underrated historical event? It could be funny, unexpected, ridiculous or inspiring, but obviously events of a political nature should be avoided. Extra imaginary points are awarded if your answer prompts many hours of Wikipedia exploration.

I'm including quite a few prompts, because I'm guessing quite a few people will pass on some of the weightier questions. And, of course, all of the normal topics and general discussion are welcome.
