"Angels acquired RHP Dan Haren from the Diamondbacks for LHP Joe Saunders, LHP Patrick Corbin, RHP Rafael Rodriguez and a player to be named."

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST! JOE MOTHERFUCKING SAUNDERES IS THE HEADLINE TO A PACKAGE FOR ONE OF THE BEST PITCHERS IN BASEBALL WHO IS SIGNED TO A PRETTY GOOD CONTRACT OVER THE NEXT FEW YEARS? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

That's it! That's the last straw! I put up with the Eric Byrnes fiasco, I put up with the Quentin trade. I put up with the Hairiston trade, I put up with the Scherzer trade, I put up with the 2nd Rauce trade, and I put up with letting Randy Johnson go. But that is too fucking much.

I will still root for Mark Reynolds to succeed, because his skillset is extremely interesting and I will still root for Justin Upton because he is an immense talent, but I am no longer a fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fuck them.

Joe Saunders-17 game winner bitches!

You're dead to me.

I'm starting to realize that now.

It’s looking more and more like a salary dump than anything

by bamfor on Jul 25, 2010 5:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Haren is due 12.75mill

I guess the Dbacks think that the difference is salary is worth the difference in talent level

by bamfor on Jul 25, 2010 6:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Which, wow that's just monumentally stupid if they think that

Saunders has pretty much zero value at 6mil, in fact he probably has negative value just by himself considering he’ll probably get 8mil the year after: If they’d got him completely free and only had to pay his salary it would still be bad.. If the point was just to free up money they wouldn’t have included him at all, so they obviously think he’s really good or something, which makes them stupid.

Thank goodness you didn't get him

Im sorry man.

This was a horrible deal for all of us.

What a shit package.

I just moved from Seattle to Scottsdale

It is impossible to unload the pieces of my M’s season ticket package for anything because everything is so cheap on stubhub.

It’s going to be impossible for me to become a fan of the D-backs.

Is this going to be enough?

Texas is up 6 games and have Cliff Lee, who every five days acends onto his Throne of Skulls with that happy grin.

Hard work never killed nobody, but I won't take my chances.

So, um...
We achieved by maintaining major league quality with a 2008 All-Star in Joe Saunders and a guy who quite frankly has been one of the winners in Major League Baseball. I think he trails only Roy Halladay among major leaguers in total wins. He’s won 63 percent of his games since coming to the major leagues, pitched in the postseason on two different occasions. He’s a quality, durable, steady major league starter. We feel like this club needs that, and a guy with a good deal of playoff experience.

by Eyeball Kid on Jul 25, 2010 7:37 PM PDT reply actions

It's real alright.

I’m listening to the soundbite of DiPoto going over the trade. Oh dear.

by ThundaPC on Jul 25, 2010 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Bill Bavasi is gone.....or is he?
“Joe Saunders is a dependable 190 type-inning starter, and he goes out and he wins. He’s been exposed to a winning environment.”
“Joe Saunders comes in as a very well paid, very accomplished Major League starting pitcher.”
“This guy is a pedigreed Major League pitcher who has accomplished quite a bit. He has a .630 winning percentage. He comes in and delivers a message to our starting staff that this is about winning now and in the future.”
“Trades are really hard to make.”

by ThundaPC on Jul 25, 2010 8:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't know why I'm bothering but

1.Dan Haren has thrown a minimum of 216 innings EVERY SINGLE YEAR SINCE HE BECAME A FULL TIME PLAYER! Dan Haren is 29 years old and has won 86 games. Saunders is 29 years old and has won 54 games. Haren has been on 5(out of 8) winning teams, including a pennant winner. Saunders has been on 6(out of 6) winning teams, but no pennant winners.

2.HAREN HAS BEEN PAID MORE AND ACCOMPLISHED MORE!

3.HAREN HAS ACCOMPLISHED MORE AND HAD/HAS A WAY BETTER PEDIGREE!

4.Fuck off!

Jesus Christ, even his own retarded logic is wrong.

You're dead to me.

Well, on the bright side (not really).

We might be getting closer to what makes seemingly smart people turn into Dayton Moore.

by ThundaPC on Jul 25, 2010 7:54 PM PDT reply actions

If the Mariners had a chance, do you think Zduriencik could have easily topped this?

I have to think that Fister or Vargas plus prospects of similar value to Patrick Corbin, Rafael Rodriguez and Tyler Skaggs would be better, and I think all of Seattle would thoroughly slobber over Jack’s balls again.

by Double06 on Jul 25, 2010 8:39 PM PDT reply actions

I think many clubs could have topped this.

But I hate going there because we certainly don’t know what Arizona was looking for. Much like the Phillies trading Cliff Lee, Arizona wasn’t simply searching for the highest bidder.

by ThundaPC on Jul 25, 2010 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

Well at least with the Cliff Lee deal it wasn't a shitty package.

We gave them meh for a year of Cliff Lee. The Angels just gave them crap for MULTIPLE YEARS AT A FRIENDLY PRICE.

You got slurved!

by Slurvey on Jul 25, 2010 10:09 PM PDT up reply actions

So let me know if I'm reading Cot's wrong.

But it looks to me like Dan Haren has a $3.5 million club option for 2013?!?

This a guy who pretty reliably gets a MINIMUM of 4 WAR a year (for the last 5+ years), going for an average of less than 10 mil per year (12.75/12.75/3.5).

That can’t be right. Right?

by moyerLIVES on Jul 25, 2010 10:27 PM PDT reply actions

No, sorry.

The option is for $15.5M, the buyout is for $3.5

by Graham MacAree on Jul 25, 2010 10:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Ok thank you.

That makes more sense. He’s still been worth 20-30 million per season. Looks like Dayton Moore and Ed Wade have a new member in their derpitocracy.

by moyerLIVES on Jul 25, 2010 10:35 PM PDT up reply actions

This is so fucking dumb.

I mean I just thought it was fucking dumb, but then I realized Haren isn’t a free agent after the year and it became sooooooooooooooooooo fucking dumb.

by SethGrandpa on Jul 25, 2010 10:42 PM PDT reply actions

Good lord this trade is awful.

I’m admittedly one of the biggest Haren fans you’ll find, but COME ON.

The D’Backs mortgaged the chance they had (not insignificant) of competing the next two years for NOTHING.

by Jack Moore on Jul 25, 2010 10:50 PM PDT reply actions

It really is an unfortunate name, isn't it?

Kind of like the D logo. JUST CALL YOURSELVES THE SNAKES YOU IDIOTS

by chaney on Jul 26, 2010 10:45 AM PDT up reply actions

The DBacks win!
Dan Haren left Monday’s game in the fifth inning after being hit in the right arm by a Kevin Youkilis liner.
Haren will probably go in for X-rays to see if there’s a break or just a bad bruise. A DL stint is a definite possibility here. Haren allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings before departing.

Jerry DiPoto outsmarts us all!

You're dead to me.
