Here's a tip.

I went from commenting 40 times every thread and being despised to commenting 4-5 times a week and being tolerated. Try lurking for awhile to pick up the general commenting guidelines of the blog and THEN comment. It’ll do you some good. Honestly, right now you’re doing everything wrong. Reading the comment threads before beginning to actively participate in them is really, really helpful.

Thanks for joining this community, and thanks for taking my advice into consideration (hopefully), because it seems like you genuinely want to participate here and not cause problems.

OK, thanks

I have been kinda lurking, and mostly hanging in the OFFTOP threads, but I’ve ventured to the gamethreads and that’s been the problem.
I’m really not trying to cause issues

Here. They're bookmarked on the side of the site.

If I hadn’t read this and this, I’m sure I would’ve never been a competent commenter. Read em and follow em.

Read number one on the style guide over and over.

I choose to be blindly hopeful when it comes to Saunders.

I can’t analyze a swing, but athlete + performance = drunken me smiling.

by John Morgan on Jul 24, 2010 10:25 PM PDT reply actions

Nah, I'm with you.

I’m a huge believer. He’s not going to be a superstar, but I have a hard time believing he won’t be an average to above-average MLB outfielder.

by Teej on Jul 24, 2010 11:15 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't see why he won't be able to become above average

He already has plus defense, so if he can become league average offensively (which he should easily be able to do) we have a good left fielder for the future.

Karma police, arrest this man.

I missed tonight's affair. When this happens, I like to hit the box score and slowly

scroll down, revealing each hitters line one by one. As I go through I hope the nice big numbers in the hits, RBI, and BB columns are for players I like and not from the likes of players who have no future here. Tonight, as I went through our first four hitters and didn’t see much production I began to get excited that Smoak did the damage tonight. But that 0-4 made me shake me head.

So I kept going and I still wasn’t seeing too much production. I got passed Bradley and groaned that Josh Bard or Jack Wilson must’ve been the heroes. How boring. Surely our beloved Michael Saunders could not have had much success against the likes of a lefty like Lester.

But yes, it was Saunders! My final scroll down revealed he had multiple hits and RBI. But more importantly it showed runs scored. The final column of the trifecta indicating a possible homerun!

And yes, Saunders did homer. And he homered off an elite lefty, and this made me very happy.

So happy, I’m now going to click on the team site and watch the video over and over again!

Somehow it is much more important to me that Saunders succeeds than Smoak succeeds.

Perhaps it is just a reflection of their relative name recognition amongst fangraphs commenters. Or just seeing one of the Mariners prospects pan out for the team.

This is a great approach

I might try this the next time I miss a game. Here is a rec for you!

The first rule of Lookout Landing is...

A question for Lookout Landing's many denizens...

I’ve got something a bit off topic, and if this isn’t the place to put it, I am sorry.

I’m going to be at next Friday’s Twins-Mariners game, in some rather excellent field club seats provided by my employer, of the sort that will probably get on the TV cameras multiple times a game, just because of their location.

My question, in order to show my love for the wonderful commenters at Lookout Landing:
If I bring a sign, what would you like me to put on it? I will take my favorite suggestion and/or have a small pool, and go with that.

Humorous, insane, largely incomprehensible references are a plus.

Go Twins!

It was back when our fanshots were still bad but amusing in a stupid way.

That was an...interesting read.

According to my calculations, your problem doesn't exist.

Sure was!

So, whenever someone screams “burn the tree”, it usually means “break up the team” in a somewhat ironic way.

I just spent about an hour reading through old threads.

First burn the tree, then all sorts of USSM and LL posts about the Seattle blog battle.

I kind of like this one.

Because it’s A) short, and B) too weird for anyone else to understand.

I could put a burning tree on the sign.

Well this game turned out a lot better than expected!

Lester was dominating us, 13 Strikeouts! It was nice to hear some noise at Safeco as well from the M’s fans. Started the day with Inception finished off the day at Safeco, amazing!

You got slurved!

by Slurvey on Jul 24, 2010 11:52 PM PDT reply actions

Woo got home from the game.

I did the beer garden, and it was pretty cool to high-five Brad Adam. Bill Krueger was kind of a douche though. Still was lots of fun and I was glad to see Pauly have a good outing and the M’s pull through here without any bullshit!
