Lopez is the most mediocre player in the history of the world

…they should send down Huntington & Nutting, because they aren’t ready, either. - royshowell

What the hell is he awesome at this year?

Because he seems like he sucks at everything right now to me.

by philosofool on Jul 21, 2010 10:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Defense at 3B.

Okay. Right. I still hate that lazy shit for making outs like that’s how we cover his room service bill (which he can no longer sign “Carlos”)

by philosofool on Jul 21, 2010 10:41 PM PDT up reply actions

It's not like he's always been completely useless

People seem to forget he’s put up 2.3 and 2.5 wins the last two seasons. That being said, he’s of course done here and he’s the dumbest player I’ve ever seen and one of the two laziest. And when he’s having a poor hitting season, that makes him pretty hateable.

by Fuckmikereilly on Jul 21, 2010 10:32 PM PDT up reply actions

I think "mentally lazy" is the indictment I would pursue against him.

He is a completely incompetent professional baseball player. How he got to where he is, is a complete mystery. More stupid than Yuni although Yuni is physically lazier. These two are head-scratchers.

by TrustBaseball on Jul 21, 2010 10:38 PM PDT up reply actions

It's just sad.

He and Betancourt could’ve been an amazing middle-infield if they just cared and weren’t so stupid.

by Hopefulmsfan on Jul 21, 2010 10:34 PM PDT up reply actions

That's what it is; it is sad.

Two young men in the prime of their lives, with a gift very few are given and they are total fuck-ups (sorry about the language). They could be/they could have been “players” that were a wonder to watch for many years, but they are an embarrassment to the game of baseball. What a waste of potential. That is a very sad statement.

by TrustBaseball on Jul 21, 2010 10:49 PM PDT up reply actions

Guti gets +50.6%, the entire rest of the lineup gets -51.5%

and Lopez accounts for -23.9% of that (while seven other players split the remaining -27.6%).

by NWade on Jul 21, 2010 10:25 PM PDT reply actions

Sorry I meant offensively.

To put it another way: Lopez’ negatives virtually wiped out every positive thing Figgins did today. And oh yeah, Figgins scored the winning run!!!

by NWade on Jul 21, 2010 10:30 PM PDT up reply actions

I think he was talking to Jeff.

Because Jeff made Guti the biggest contribution.

by Hopefulmsfan on Jul 21, 2010 10:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Ah, thanks. I assumed incorrectly that it was a reply-fail.

And yes, Felix was amazing tonight! Really hope he gets post-game interviews and press on it, he deserves it.

by NWade on Jul 21, 2010 10:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Weird

Even without the mysterious baseball insight of Rob Johnson penetrating the psyche of every batter Felix managed to muddle through with 2H, 8K, 0BB and 0WP.

I bet he can’t wait for Robocatcher’s hips to feel better.

Seems Moore is hitting well enough to come back

I can’t say if his defense has improved. But was he worse than Johnson when he was up this year?

by short on Jul 21, 2010 11:31 PM PDT up reply actions

It's been said that they're going to take it slow with Moore

The organization wants his next call-up to be his last.

Karma police, arrest this man.

by wyte_lightning on Jul 21, 2010 11:34 PM PDT up reply actions

After a hot start when coming back, Moore has OPSed .493 over the last ten games

With 11 K’s, including 6 the last two games. I want him up as badly as anyone, but he’s not hitting well right now in Tacoma.

by Fuckmikereilly on Jul 21, 2010 11:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Nobody has been worse than Johnson this year with the sample size Rob's given us.

Let’s see what Moore’s got. I believe it can’t be worse that RJ, but now we have the time to find out.

by TrustBaseball on Jul 21, 2010 11:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Even in a season like this, this was a nice win to see.

Just to see Figgins come through for once and make some big plays and Guti get the walk-off. The celebration makes me smile.

by Hopefulmsfan on Jul 21, 2010 10:29 PM PDT reply actions

Haha, poor Pos

As if Yuni and Lopez together would be the worst thing he’d seen (and had to write about)! Aww, but yeah, poor Joe Posnanski. That being said, please trade Lopez to KC for value Z!

by jzalman on Jul 22, 2010 12:06 AM PDT up reply actions

Figgins isn't hitting for shit,

but he’s stolen 25 bags to 6 CS.

Just think how many he’d have if he could hit!

by craig3410 on Jul 21, 2010 10:30 PM PDT reply actions

If his hitting comes around (and I think it will), he's going to be exactly what we expected.

Hopefully tonight starts him on the right path. Him being himself next year (and taking his defense back to 3B) is one of the biggest improvements possible for 2010.

by Fuckmikereilly on Jul 21, 2010 10:34 PM PDT up reply actions

This is not a surprise.
@TNTmariners Felix was ummm, relatively pissed, after the game about having to come out. There is word that he threw a tantrum in the dugout..

by drblacknwhite on Jul 21, 2010 10:46 PM PDT reply actions

I was going to complain what an inexplicable decision that was.

I’m more upset with Wak than Loafie about that. First 126 pitches after coming in with 104 in the 9th a few weeks ago, now out after 93 through 8. I’ve argued that Wak should be left in because of the hopes that he goes back to what he did last year (he tremendous job in 2009), but he’s pretty obviously losing the trust of the team.

by Decatur on Jul 21, 2010 11:50 PM PDT up reply actions

The Figgy/WIlson hug at home plate makes me smile.

Also nice to see Smoak reach Guti first and dear god I hope Milton wasn’t stabbing Guti during the celebration.

You got slurved!

by Slurvey on Jul 21, 2010 10:50 PM PDT reply actions

I was so happy when I saw Smoak get there first

He looked so genuinely a part of the team, so glad for the win. It’s great to see that, especially given that he came from a serious WS threat team to one of the worst in the majors. Like the man he was traded for, he just wants to help his team win, and he’s accepted the M’s as his team. So happy.

by jzalman on Jul 22, 2010 12:11 AM PDT up reply actions

So what exactly was the reason for relieving Felix?

Any theories? Has anyone come up with a defense yet for the decision?

by pixburgher on Jul 21, 2010 10:54 PM PDT reply actions

Pitch count.

They are watching his pitches so he doesn’t kill himself in a lost year,

by msb on Jul 21, 2010 10:55 PM PDT up reply actions

We like his arm

And we’re in a meaningless season.

by Brian Floyd on Jul 21, 2010 10:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Felix via Divish's twitter
Felix on watching his pitch count "I don’t understand. Talk to the manager. I don’t care about the innings. I feel good. I feel strong."

Karma police, arrest this man.

by wyte_lightning on Jul 21, 2010 11:04 PM PDT reply actions

On one hand, I believe him.

On the other hand, he hangs around Jose Lopez too much.

by ThundaPC on Jul 21, 2010 11:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Felix has no reason to say "I'm tired and I should have come out because I'd thrown enough pitches"

I would expect him to say exactly what he said, as I would expect any pitcher to say the same. It’s a manager’s job to protect his pitcher’s arm – Wak in this case was doing his job.

by pdb on Jul 22, 2010 7:39 AM PDT up reply actions

Felix, along with other pitchers, have over a million different sayings to chose from.

Even a simple “I would’ve liked to have stayed out there but it’s ultimately the Manager’s call” makes a world of difference.

I don’t mind if players are honest but they’re not limited to two choices as far as what they can say and how they can say it.

by ThundaPC on Jul 22, 2010 9:48 AM PDT up reply actions

I sorta....

kinda love this.

I think they do need to slow their roll on his innings though.

by PLU Tim on Jul 21, 2010 11:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Common fan thought process:

If Felix says this, he’s a competitive gamer and a warrior and an awesome dude.

If Figgins has a cow about being replaced for a pinch hitter and complains, he’s a whiny little fuck who needs to be DFA’d even though we owe him money.

Fans are typically idiots.

by The Typical Idiot Fan on Jul 21, 2010 11:40 PM PDT up reply actions

At least he isn't trying to barehand line drives anymore

He needs to have this fire. And Wak’s his boss. We’ve gone over this before, this is how it works. Wak will/would take the blame if it ended badly. Felix needs to be “handled” otherwise he jeopardize himself. I wouldn’t have it any other way…except I’d have left him in…

by jzalman on Jul 22, 2010 12:15 AM PDT up reply actions

Anyone else starting to get nervous about Ichiros extended slump in terms of him maybe not getting to 200 hits this year?

He’s got 67 games left to get 88 hits for an average of 1.31 hits a game. His current season average is 1.28 hits per game. He’s going to have to pick it up a bit.

by TIFO on Jul 22, 2010 12:01 AM PDT reply actions

He's still smacking the ball around pretty good, just getting unlucky.

Should have had two hits tonight for instance. He’ll heat up again pretty soon and get back on pace.

by drblacknwhite on Jul 22, 2010 12:05 AM PDT up reply actions

Ichiro is the exact same player he's been for the past 10 years.

The only thing different about him is that he’s getting fewer pitches in the srikezone (44.7% in 2010 vs. 52% career), swinging at more at pitches outside the strikezone (35.3% in 2010 vs. 25.8% career), and making better contact with those out-of-zone pitches (81.8% in 2010 vs. 75.4% career). That and he’s walking a little more than usual and hitting fewer home runs than usual. He’s still projected to get 203 hits this year by ZiPS.

by Decatur on Jul 22, 2010 12:49 AM PDT up reply actions

... I agree with your last point.

But I think it’s funny that you essentially wrote “He’s the exact same hitter. The only thing different is that he is an entirely different hitter.”

...and now I'm here

by CapSea on Jul 22, 2010 1:39 AM PDT up reply actions

As with any streak I kinda want it to end so people will stop focusing on it

it will be a sad day when it ends, but it will end, as all streaks do.
