6/8: Open Strasburg Thread

Stephen Strasburg

Jul 20, 1988

Because god knows you'll be watching and talking.

I'm going to be liveblogging over here for SBN. If Strasburg comes out early enough - and he's supposedly on a limit of around 90 pitches - there'll be plenty of time to switch back and watch Felix, which is really kind of amazing.

The Pirates' lineup is ohmygod awful.

Why a pitch count?

Wasn’t he stretched out in the minors?

For some reason I like that he's going with the knee-high socks tonight.

I know he's a muffin made of stud,

but there were some legitimate concerns about his delivery when he was drafted.

Thought about that right after I hit "post".

I dunno...

Go look at footage of Bob Gibson sometime. He looks like he’s trying to get airborne from the pitcher’s mound. So Lincecum’s not the first guy with a funky delivery.

At this point, I’m going to let results trump pretty much everything else.

I’m just curious as to why you would choose him.

"Because 100 luftballoons would be far too many"

by Thingray on Jun 8, 2010 4:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Because he has the best pitch I've ever seen.

I like ‘stuff’ and velo and all that, but his change-up is a better pitch than other people’s anything-they-throw. That’s good.

Man, strasburg almost beat that out!

by marc w on Jun 8, 2010 4:43 PM PDT up reply actions

To the people that are still complaining about us missing out on Strasburg by half a game.

The Pirates finished with a worse record than us by three games in 1986 but that was still back when the AL and NL alternated the 1st overall pick in the draft regardless of record.

With the 2nd pick the Pirates drafted Mark Merchant , a player who never had a single at bat in the major league. With the first overall pick we drafted Ken Griffey Jr.

Shit happens. Deal with it.

One more lifetime 0.00 ERA gone.

Insignificant team in Seattle. No one actually cares.

Yes, Harper needs to first strike out in an MLB AB

Until then, it’s impossible to prove he’s the giant bust he will be.

Rooting for lovable losers since 1984.

Yes he did. Thats one of those times where he probably regretted it the second he did it.

I would never throw back a home run ball.

I don’t care what the situation is.

I'm sure

he had a strong urge to dive onto the field after that ball. It would still be worth it, even if he got the ball and got thrown out of the stadium in the process.

The Pirates' defense blows.

I'll switch to the M's after this inning.

I’ve seen what I wanted to see, and it was magnificent.

Bring him backout for the 7th.

I don’t get giving him a 90-pitch pitch count anyway…hasn’t he been throwing more in the minors?

by BrettJMiller on Jun 8, 2010 5:28 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, he's been fine

They’re being super cautious I guess.

by Brian Floyd on Jun 8, 2010 5:31 PM PDT up reply actions

And no walks

What, one or two 3-ball counts?

by Fett42 on Jun 8, 2010 5:30 PM PDT up reply actions

God the Nats suck.

They are gonna fucking lose this game aren’t they?

by BrettJMiller on Jun 8, 2010 5:34 PM PDT reply actions

WILLINGHAM!!!

Get a big enough lead that they are ok with leaving him out there another inning.

This is like watching two little crippled children fight.

Except one has a really sweet gun, but has no fucking idea how to use it.

At first I read it "except one has really sweet gum"

I was like, is it really that hard to figure out how to use gum.
