Around SBN: Indy 500: 'Greatest Spectacle In Racing' Set For Sunday

In this FanPost we redesign the Mariners uniforms

So it appears that last night we wore our retro uniforms and it prompted a discussion on the merits of each generation of Mariners jeresys. Now given that we are terrible and approaching on 20 years in the same setup, one could make an reasonably intelligent guess and assume that ownership might make some changes in order to sell some merchandise.

So how bout you all one up them and show us how you want them to look!

Star-divide

I have a few ideas but not really sure how to express them so instead I will post some really shitty logos that I came up with when I was in 10th grade!

Retro Colors, Modern Logo

2010 Safeco Field Record: 1-1 ; Overall Safeco Field Record: 11-5

by Fin on Jun 26, 2010 11:01 PM PDT reply actions

Something like that.

I saw in the team store a hat that was blue with the present day ‘S’ in yellow. I think the Mariners could do an alternate uniform color scheme just like that.

I also think it would be a good idea to ditch the teal and replace it with the same northwest green that safeco field is currently colored.

2010 Safeco Field Record: 1-1 ; Overall Safeco Field Record: 11-5

by Fin on Jun 27, 2010 1:23 AM PDT up reply actions

Ew.

The dark green of Safeco with the gold and royal blue would just be hideous. The dark green of Safeco with gold and our current navy blue would be doable. Two darks and one bright color to pop.

by harkening on Jun 27, 2010 1:37 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't think I was clear.

I was thinking one uniform scheme would be a dark-green/dark-blue combo instead of dark blue-teal.

Another uniform combo would be retro royal blue/gold colors with the modern logos.

I hate the blue and gold scheme

Looks like the cubs scouts and doesn’t go with my clothes

by Poochie on Jun 27, 2010 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Is this a long lost cousin of rosterbation?

They seem to resemble each other, but don’t know that they’re really related, and yet their grandparents/parents are all like OMFG they are so related

I always sorta wanted one.

I was under the impression that they were auctioned off with the uniforms.

Hmmm.

Three or four years ago they had a couple of uniforms at the FanFest garage sale.

I didn't think about it at the time

But that totally looks like they’re playing Baseketball. What a hideous, terrible idea.

by HititHere on Jun 28, 2010 9:58 AM PDT up reply actions

That is really cool.

I saw it before I read you did it, and couldn’t figure out for the life of me when they used that.

This would be perfect if the trident was pointing down.

It’s a merging of the old and the new, the trident is awesome and we should use it. Also it has the added bonus of making us the S and M team.

by Smegmalicious on Jun 30, 2010 1:52 PM PDT up reply actions

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I absolutely love the Mariners uniforms and I never want them to change.

Robert, if the M’s change their uniform, I will hunt you down and make you watch David Justice’s HR off of Rhodes over and over and over again.

I wouldn't mind if the uniforms are changed, to be honest

but I swear I’m the only person who prefers the compass to the trident.

by Eyeball Kid on Jul 5, 2010 1:04 PM PDT up reply actions

I am not a fan of the trident either.

Leave it in the 70’s and 80’s where it belongs.

I'm actually fine with the current unis

About the only change I would make is to the compass logo; an 8-point compass just looks too busy on the S, and I think reducing it to 4 points would do wonders.

Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?

I've been wanting them to go back to royal blue and yellow for years now.

Give the teal and silver a rest, it’s not the mid 90s anymore.

I dislike the whole blue/yellow it's not a very seattle color scheme. I really like the current ones.

If they were to change something i would like to see an evolution of the current uniforms (like the seahawks). Why did they ever stop wearing the teal rim home hats?

by bagsflyfree on Jul 1, 2010 1:32 AM PDT reply actions

I love the blue and yellow, but I think I like their current colors more

I want them to bring the Trident back with the current colors. Fuck, I love the trident.

by ungoreatstefan on Jul 2, 2010 6:31 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree

The teal brim is great. Bring it back!

by Snowman1025 on Jul 5, 2010 1:00 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't have the time to sit and design something, but I've got some ideas to think about.

Basically think about anything nautical. Knots could be interesting, anchors, sails, waves….

I like the idea of using the same colors as the Seahawks and Sounders. The Seahawks use the dark blue, the Sounders use the bright green, so why not have the M’s use that sort of middle blue?

I don't think you're taking this nearly far enough.

The whole Mariners name is played out. What is a mariner, anyway? Someone who sails in boats? And the Seattle team should be called that because they’re near water or something? That’s silly. They’re baseball players. They don’t sail in boats. You know who else sails in boats? Pirates. You know which other team hasn’t won anything in fucking forever? The Pittsburgh Pirates. Yeah. Look at the teams who have won the world series recently. The Yankees, the Phillies. What’s a Yankee? Someone from the United States. Not someone who sails in a fucking boat. What’s a Phillie? Fucked if I know, but it’s not somebody in a fucking boat.

Until the Mariners change their name, they will never win anything. There is a historical precedent for this, in fact. The Cleveland teams of the late 19th and early 20th century were absolutely awful, historically bad losers. So they decided to rid themselves of the tired “Spiders” moniker and find a new name. Legend has it the “Indians” name was chosen because of one of their players, Louis Sockalexis, a Native American. I propose the erstwhile Mariners do something along the same lines, and name the team in honor of everyone’s favorite, good old Loafie. The Seattle Mexicans will emerge strong and reborn from the ashes for the doomed Mariners, ready to dethrone the Angels and Rangers and win multiple championships, and begin a new dynasty. I have taken it upon myself to design uniforms for this new, glorious team of the future, as so:

Not sure many players would like having just one pant leg on their uniform.

And if you want to avoid the whole sailing in boats mentality; the peg leg should probably go too.

Yeah, it's a W.

I like the trident on the sleeve, though. Even if it came back as an alternate logo, I’d be happy.
Also, the SM script seems a bit too busy.

by yuniform on Jul 5, 2010 10:47 PM PDT up reply actions

You need to combine the two alternates.

Greenaqua on front. Black on the back. With the sweet S Trident M on the chest. Go Seattle Washington Mariners! GO!

about having S&M all up ons the front of our jerseys.

Does the black one come in leather?

I was shooting to a little Sounders

but it definitely needed the gray/silver stroke in order to create contrast.
