That is one mammoth difference in offensive talent right there. Ryan Braun, Corey Hart, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, wait, Rickie Weeks? Yeah, Rickie Weeks too. My impression of Weeks was still as a one foot out the door player, but he's been a real asset with the bat the past two seasons and really wasn't all that bad in 2007 or '08 either. Now if only that group could play some defense.
Lets beat these franchise stealers!
Fri Jun 25, 17:10: Ryan Rowland-Smith* vs. Dave Bush
Sat Jun 26, 13:10: Doug Fister vs. Randy Wolf*
Sun Jun 27, 11:10: Jason Vargas* vs. Chris Narveson*
The tRA matchups for this series:
RRS (8.69) vs. Bush (6.25)
Fister (3.68) vs. Wolf (6.60)
Vargas (4.09) vs. Narveson (4.34)
Narveson is the only Brewer we face that has been decent and he gets to face the not terrible Jason Vargas. Bush and Wolf have been Milwaukee's worst starters not named Jeff Suppan. It's a real shame the team didn't win yesterday for a variety of reasons but one of which is that there would have then existed a not ludicrous chance of sweeping Milwaukee and making it ten straight wins. I don't mention that out of some misguided hope for the playoffs, but rather because it would have been remarkable for a team playing as poorly as Seattle has to have rolled off a ten game winning streak in the midst of this season. It would be like when the 2001 Mariners lost a series or when the 2008 Mariners did anything worthwhile at all.

The more sobering thought is that if we would have pulled off a 20-game A's-esque win streak during this last run
We would only have gotten to 3 games above.

After Felix left yesterday, I got very cozy with the idea of a loss.
Since this team making the playoffs is sort of ludicrous, another sweep would have given the fans enough hope to start up the belief train and would generate more backlash against a Lee trade.
A real part of me is against a trade, just so we can indulge in watching Cliff Lee pitch for the rest of the year.
Just as a sort of treat. Like eating ice cream before you have to eat a healthy dinner. You aren’t supposed to do it, but it’s OK, because how often do you get to enjoy that kind of thing?
Other fans would look at us and say that it isn’t rational. And, sure it would be nice to have a valid league ready catching prospect (or pitching, or shortstop). But we have Cliff Lee, and he is awesome, and he has been one of the few fun things related to the Mariners this year. Maybe it’s worth it once in a while to do something wrong for the team’s long term success, just for the simple immediate pleasure of getting to watch Lee make starts through to the fall.
