I'll second, third and fourth this. Also, Saunders!!!
Great game tonight. I wish more than anything that the team was performing as GMZ had wanted it to. I wish we didn’t have to let Cliff FUCKING Lee go. He is so much fun to watch. Hopefully, one day Felix will be as dominating.

It's much better when they are thrown around
when describing someone with a lot of talent too. Those things plus talent add up to a special player.

I think knowing we're wasting our only year of Cliff Lee is one of the saddest things I've experienced as a sports fan

It isn't the sucking and the losing that gets me.
I’m used to that.
It’s the waste of such greatness that gives me the sadness.
Griffey!
I love Cliff, but I'm used to wasting greatness.
We’ve had Ichiro for nine years (and this is his tenth season) and Felix for 4.5.
I totally forgot to watch the game tonight, got watching Mythbusters and playing MW4.
But it looks like Cliff Lee was awesome again, which makes me happy.
We need to find some Asian guy named Cliff Li and trade him instead.

What's worse, an apostrophe or no apostrophe?
In my experience punctuation is mostly neutral. Emotes excluded, obviously.

Hard to say
I think having one there is worse since in this case it is unnecessary.

Yes. One is wrong. The other isn't.
The one that isn’t is better.

Huh Michael Saunders...

How dare he be considerate.
You got slurved!

Saunders is a class act for not showing up Soriano, then again, who cares about class.
Those Cubs fans were rude to my pal MB. If Saunders had done it, I wouldn’t be complaining at all.
by TrustBaseball on Jun 23, 2010 10:19 PM PDT up reply actions
That's basically Saunders' personality though.
He doesn’t like to show off or one-up guys.

He might be talked into it
but only if it’s to help the team.

Wow, Canadians are such a weird people.
...and now I'm here
My brain knows we will never sign Lee
But my heart hurts when the defense isn’t stellar during his starts. I’d like to think it would give Z something to talk to him about. And, maybe he likes seafood. So the defensive flubs today were really annoying, even though I know it doesn’t really matter.

Cliff needs to one up himself
and throw a no-hitter! But besides that he was absolutely phenomenal tonight.
I love you Lee!
Wait and how did Figgins get the biggest suckfest?
Milton didn’t get an RBI.
I almost don't want to read the game recap, for fear of the meloncholy it will inspire in my heart.
Cliff Lee, I love you.
Hard work never killed nobody, but I won't take my chances.
Cliff, I love you too. I'm so sorry we weren't able to pull off a winning team this year and
that you most likely won’t ever be a Mariner again. I would love to see you win a WS ring with my M’s. You are so much fun to watch.
by TrustBaseball on Jun 23, 2010 10:35 PM PDT up reply actions
I love Cliff too,
which is why I say that we should trade him so he can be with a deserving team and get his ring.
Of course, wouldn’t we all break down if Z were to pull some magic and sign him for next year and beyond.
Such a waste of an opportunity. Why did the M’s have to start winning again to make this harder?
by magistermilitum on Jun 23, 2010 10:42 PM PDT up reply actions
You're right, of course, I just hate to see him leave. Signing him for next year and beyond
might be a mistake because of his age. I’m guessing he wants a final 4 or 5 year contract. That wouldn’t really work for me. We needed to compete this year to enjoy all that is Cliff Lee. We can’t and should pay for 5 more years of his pitching. Honestly, I don’t see this winning streak bringing us much closer to the top. The odds just aren’t in our favor with Texas and their own streak (plus their cushy schedule), and the climb we’d have to make.

Awwwwww Cliff.
And why couldn’t this have been against Silva.

Hey visiting A's fan here.
With Bedard coming back, I think you guys really have a shot at making a run at things. But whatever happens, you guys can be assured of finishing ahead of our mediocre mess of a team.
"We were shit, pathetic," Guillen growled early in spring training. "We hit too many home runs."
At least you guys get to watch a great pitching performance every night (RRS excepted).
We’re still hoping Ben Sheets makes the jump from shitty to merely mediocre.

Lost ground
We’ve won six in a row and lost ground.
Although, until we’re at .500 the standings aren’t huge on my radar. The suckines of the division didn’t make the early season walk off/one run losses feel any better, and the win streak of the Rangers right now doesn’t make this win streak feel any worse.

Went to the game tonight. Stupid Cubs ticket prices.
Fuck you Cubs fans booing MB, classless assholes. And ahahahaha, you got crushed. Fun game overall.
by TWownsU on Jun 23, 2010 11:14 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
It was pretty great seeing their spirits plummet after after the M's went up 4-1.
And I’ve never cheered so hard for MB. Cracker-ass Cubs fans can suck it.

Jack Z can't realistically trade Lee in the middle of a long winning streak.
I suddenly care again if the Mariners win.
Pleeeeease keep on winning.
by Fuckmikereilly on Jun 23, 2010 11:23 PM PDT reply actions
I do not see your logic
I think he will be traded regardless. Unless you mean a twenty game winning streak or something.
by Snowman1025 on Jun 23, 2010 11:30 PM PDT up reply actions
He means Lee can't be traded tomorrow
and if they win tomorrow then he can’t be traded the next day.
so yes, a twenty game winning streak or something.

I imagine Dave will put up a post on USSM devoted to crushing hope again sometime soon.
He’s really good at pointing out the realities of a situation.
Coolstandings gives us a 0.3% chance of making the playoffs.
"Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett Mariners Minors
Well, I meant more along the lines of this:
91 games left in the season.
Ballpark of 90 wins needed to make the playoffs.
That’d be 60 more wins.
So, basically, we’d have to win 65.93% of our remaining games to have a reasonable shot at the playoffs.
A team that played at that pace for a whole season would win approximately 107 games in a season.
So, basically, we’d have to play like a team just slightly worse than the 2001 Mariners for the remainder of the season.
It's that damned "perspective" again.
Makes me sick.
"Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett Mariners Minors
The worst part is, 90 wins might not even get it done
It was just a nice round number to use for the math.
To clarify, I have no hope of playoffs.
But Lee won’t be traded in the middle of a winning streak. It would simply be insulting to the players. So as long as the streak continues, Lee stays.
by Fuckmikereilly on Jun 23, 2010 11:56 PM PDT up reply actions
This wouldn't be shocking.
It’d still be pretty terrible for our team though.

Did anybody else at the game notice
…that Gutierrez’s favorite TV show is (supposedly) “Keeping Up With the Kardashians”?
…I almost cried.

One of the best parts of this little run.
Besides watching the pitching has been watching Saunders get better. I’m pretty sure this was his best game so far of the season.
