Erik Bedard made his first rehab start of the year
After what felt like a number of minor setbacks, he finally threw 52 actual pitches in what technically counted as a professional baseball game as the Peoria Mariners kicked off their summer season. Over the course of their careers, lots of pitchers will be tabbed as Opening Day starters in both rookie ball and the bigs, but few of them will go in Erik Bedard's order. The most important thing to see is how Bedard feels tomorrow, but if nothing goes wrong, he could and should be in Seattle in roughly a month.

I kind of hope we keep Lee long enough to have Felix-Lee-Bedard for one rotation
Just so we could say we actually did it.

The best hope is that he proves he can stay healthy and we sign him to another 1-year deal for 2011.
This is the most important piece.
I feel like I say it every year now but if he can prove he’s healthy and still good, he and Pineda can alleviate a lot of concerns for next year’s rotation.

How does Bedard prove he can stay healthy?
I can’t think of anything that would convince me of it.

oh boy he can fill cliff's rotation spot.
Man alive i will miss Cliff Lee. what a fucking spectacular pitcher.
You left all those words uncapitalized to show that 'Cliff Lee' was capitalized out of respect,
not syntactical considerations, right? Right.

3b!
I’m remembering some spring training interview with Erik not wanting to speculate that he would oust RRS from the throne of #3 pitcher. Another high hope that has made the season to date so unbearable. There was so much hope. Oh well, welcome back Erik. You are very good. I hope that you make back up to the big club soon, and continue to sign incentive laden contracts with us.
