Brandon League uses splitter as his "last resort" pitch
Geoff Baker asks Brandon League why he doesn't throw that unhittable pitch more often. Last year, League apparently had trouble spotting his two-seam fastball (sinker) which made him use the splitter more (the stats have been well documented). So why did he go splitter-crazy in Sunday's game vs. Cincinnati?
"That was a last resort,'' he said with a laugh. "They couldn't score there or it was a tie game. I had to get a strikeout.''
League's fastball currently sits 1.4 runs above average vs. 3.1 below average last year. Guess we'll see how this goes.

YOU'D BE USING THE SPLIT-PIECE AS YOUR LAST RESORT TOO IF ROB JOHNSON WAS YOUR CATCHER
FUCK!
Karma police, arrest this man.

If my splitter was capable of destroying an entire civilization I'd use it as a last resort as well.
You got slurved!
How can you throw your splitter
if the catcher keeps fucking up the launch codes?

I think this puts him in competition with Jose Lopez as "Stupidest Mariner."

The line of reasoning in his head was "man I really need to get these guys out so I better use the splitter"
Is that really correct? What goes through his head most of the time?

"If I throw the splitter, it's going all the way to the backstop"?
You can't be a catcher if you can't catch. Rob Johnson will henceforth be listed as a traffic cone on the roster.
Dumb logic by League
It would be like Vargas throwing his best pitch, the change, only when he really really double secret probation needed it.
