Sorry for the slow week, but there's nothing I can do about it. I see Vargas struck out Albert Pujols swinging. That's pretty cool.

Draft picks are the new floor.

I would love to say that Vargas striking out Pujols was like Roy Hobbs vs the Whammer,
but it was much less exciting. Pujols looked embarrassed, however.
How would you describe League icing Holliday?
You can't be a catcher if you can't catch. Rob Johnson will henceforth be listed as a traffic cone on the roster.

Griffey splashing one into the fountain in KC was the best part of the game

I know older guys have issues with bladder control sometimes...
But really, in the fountain?

I watched 30 for 30 too.
I made the right choice; I turned back just in time for David Aardsma to not strike anyone out yet again. He scares me.
I can't resist clicking "Rec" when I see a post with four [of them] already.

I enjoyed "June 17, 1994"
No narration or interviews, just news and sports footage, which was an interesting approach. Also reminded me what a travesty that trial was.

Depends on the drug and how it's used.
Avenues of scientific inquiry ought not be closed off.

I just looked Vargas's stats up on FanGraphs.
It’s amazing how his pitch rates are almost identical to last year. He’s been a bit lucky too. Still, I’m happy to take it.
I had no faith in Fister coming into this season (whoops, I guess), but Vargas showed some legitimate ability last year.
He’s just absolutely solid and boy it would be neat if all the idiots in our system with great stuff had his ability to pitch.
Although not on the chart, Saunders had a decent game.
I’m looking forward to seeing him in many more this season.
I wish Langerhans would get more starts at first.
He seems to be a better option than Carp or Kotchman right now.
He's livelier in every regard.
Kotchman has looked like a corpse. He’s given up.

Surprised Aardsma or somebody didn't blow it
And that’s not me being snarky, I legitimately am surprised. Pleasantly surprised.
This is a little off topic but...
There are only 5 players who were drafted and signed by the Mariners in the last 15 years who have accumulated more than 2 WAR in the majors. Who are they?
(Also, when I figured this out it made me a little sad. 5 players with 2 career WAR seems really low)

By my count, starting with 1995.
Jose Cruz
Brian Fuentes
Joel Pineiro
J.J. Putz
Gil Meche
Matt Thornton
Adam Jones

Some other interesting names drafted by the Mariners. I picked the less well-known ones. A-Rod, Varitek, Langston, etc. are pretty obvious.
Rick Adair (third overall in 1979), Mike Hampton, Shawn Estes, Morgan Ensberg, Juan Pierre (twice), Rich Harden, Barry Zito, Jason Hammel, Travis Buck, and Gaby Sanchez.

Also in comparison
The Angels had 15 players that met this criteria with much much higher WAR totals.

Guesses without research:
Willie Bloomquist
Brandon Morrow
Gil Meche
Mark Lowe
Lopez missing time would mean Tui playing every day. Every. Day. Tui. Playing.
I guess it’s time to get Jack back up and push Josh to third if this is the case.
The plus side to Tui playing every day is that he proves he is not a major leaguer in quick fashion.
Then maybe he goes away sooner?
How bad has Matt Tuiasosopo been this season? I'm glad you asked.
Through 58 plate appearances and 135.1 defensive innings, Tui has been worth -.5 WAR. Wrap your head around that.
Has he suffered from a bad BABIP? Well, it’s .267 on the season and he hasn’t made the kind of contact to demand something significantly higher. So how is his offense? .206 wOBA, good for a wRC+ of 21. Yes folks, Tui is hitting like 21% of a David Eckstein.
