Even Jesus wouldn’t give Ian Snell this many chances.

Sounds like Loafie just about knocked Pujols out cold with that throw to the back of the head
Amazing call by Niehaus on the radio, Pujols staggering into the dugout after retouching the plate. Loafie can sure be a lot of fun once in awhile
I never expected us to win so there was zero pain.
Saunders got a hit. I’m just waiting for the Cliff Lee trade and for the team to reload or go to hell.
ignacio
The inevitable Cliff Lee trade is the only thing keeping me going.
We have no young players to bring up until then. It seems like most really terrible years we at least had some young talent to try out, which is always kind of fun. But unless Fields gets a chance, I can’t see anyone ready to contribute. So hopefully Cliff brings us one near-major league ready prospect that can bring us excitement.
We also have Saunders, when he plays.

I'm going to pour pixie stick powder down my pee hole if Z holds on to Lee out of some unholy love of draft picks.

There's a very good chance that the draft picks are more valuable than what we could get in a trade

It seems that we always go into drafts with a budget, though.
So as deep as next year’s draft supposedly is, we’d likely have to have “budget targets” with our Lee picks. This is one of the bigger reasons I’d rather see Lee traded.
If the draft is deep though, isn't that likely to drive prices down somewhat?

Is there much of a guarantee that we wouldn't just spread the money around?
As some would argue we did last year? Other teams also punted their picks based on signability this year.

On the contrary
It could even drive prices up, because remember whoever gets Lee can get 2 draft picks for letting him walk.
It’s not just US that gets to think about Lee’s draft picks. Teams are paying for Cliff Lee and 2 draft picks for themselves, significantly increasing his value.
I'm not quite sure, but I think acblue was referring to the price for which said draft picks would sign.
Not the price trading Cliff Lee would fetch.

Aaron's not an idiot and is clearly referring to the price of signing bonuses.

So maybe I should have responded to this comment:
“There’s a very good chance that the draft picks are more valuable than what we could get in a trade”
I was suggesting Lee’s value in trade will be higher than the draft picks, because the club getting Lee will get the picks as well.
I wasn't calling anyone an idiot
I just thought Aaron’s post made it seem like he had forgotten that fact. If I assumed incorrectly, I apologize.
The important thing to keep in mind
is that while the teams are getting those picks, a lot of teams seem to almost refuse to acknowledge that reality when trading for Type A FAs. Return for players like Lee has been way down the past few years.
But with that being said, this is one of those situations where if Dave Cameron thinks my viewpoint is wrong I am inclined to agree with him.

That's true--look at the Sabathia deal...
LaPorta and change, and then the Brewers got to restock with 2 extra draft picks. I would have expected a bigger price.
Dave’s article on USSM is really good (just don’t read the painful comments). We’ll see if his predictions turn out.
LaPorta hasn't performed that well to date, but he was a well-regarded prospect.
Michael Brantley is also somewhat interesting.
Also, we can't forget the fact that those picks come a year later with more risk and a longer path to the majors.
You don’t have to get the same caliber of prospect in a trade to make it equal in value.
Definitely
I just think it’s important to remember what it took to get Cliff Lee, with an entire year left on his contract. I’d rather have draft picks than that collection of talent.

Yep.
The point is, we don’t know and it’s silly to assume that taking the draft picks is a major failing on the part of the FO.

His "Rob dropped a ball" drinking game probably wasn't helping.

Bringing Snell in with the game in reach is the same as giving up.
Who does Wak think he is? A fan?!
Damn, my eyeball tastes good.
