said Buster Olney this morning on the radio, about Frank Robinson being named to head the MLB umpires:
"Major League Baseball shuffled its Baseball Operations Department on Friday. And when the shuffling was finished, it appeared to leave Hall of Famer Frank Robinson overseeing baseball's embattled umpires."
Olney followed his description of Frank as the new Enforcer by saying that the general belief is that under Sandy Alderson (who was more hands-on, and quick to contact umps about their behavior, strike zone, etc) the umpires had been controlled better than recently under Mike Port.
This on the heels of ESPN's latest player poll about the current umpires ...
Baseball's worst ump:
1. CB Bucknor (37%)
2. Joe West (35%)
3. Angel Hernandez (22%)
I just have a wonderful picture in my mind of Frank Robinson, slapping a bat against the palm of his hand, approaching a cowering Chris Guccione.
