I love Mark Lowe when he's at his best

The inconsistency pushes it down to really, really like. The bullpen hijinks do him no harm either.

Lowe, Aardsma, League, Kelley

All sit at approximately the same place on the love/hate scale for me. In a lot of ways Bullpen Conglomeration Guy is pretty accurate.

I love Mark Lowe

He was one of the first prospects I saw come up and have immediate success. I fondly remember his however-long scoreless streak to start his ML career (something like 15-20 innings). Also he’s a great human interest story, given that his surgery was entirely experimental and now he’s just about right back up to his pre-surgery velocity.

I am actually debating a Mark Lowe jersey as my next major Mariners purchase. I also have a thing for scrappy white guys from the midwest, I dunno.

Mark Lowe is one of my favorite players.

He’s the main guy behind all the bullpen hijinks, and he can occasionally hit 100 mph. Good player + probably insane = love.

ROB JOHNSON IS THE WORST PERSON EVER

I like Mark Lowe the person, but don't like Mark Lowe the player.

Only around 15% of the games in the season have passed and he has already given up the losing run in 3 games. That’s small sample size galore, but last year he had 7 losses and 10 blown saves. Of course there’s probably overlap for those games when we were leading and he gave up the runs which negated our lead and the losing run also.
That’s pretty bad especially when you look at some of the good setup guys we’ve had previously like Rhodes and Nelson.

Lowe seems to be overrated (especially by Wak, which is bad for our record since Wak puts him out there in high leverage situations which he blows too frequently) so is there any possibility to add him to a trade for a servicable DH?

Kelley can be brought up as his replacement and we’d seem better off than now. Or are other teams not so dumb to overpay?

It feels like you've mentioned Rhodes and Nelson in about 1/3 of your posts

This may come as a surprise, but those guys have fuck all to do with this team. As for Lowe, it’s not like he’s a bad pitcher, he’s just being used in the wron situations, as Dave Cameron points out here.

Thanks for paying attention in any case.

One thing I agree with you is that Lowe is not a good enough pitcher to be used in the high leverage situations that Wakamatsu is using him in.
Wak is rapidly losing my confidence.
I don’t know how many games we won thanks to him, but it seems we lost more than 5 games (difference between first and last in the division) due to his bad calls (line-up management and relief, overmanaging using that moron Byrnes, etc.).

There's almost no way Wakamatsu cost the team five wins.

That would make him something like twice as bad as the worst manager in history.

Or, to put it another way, it would mean Wakamatsu’s management completely canceled out Ichiro’s performance over the course of the entire season.

I happened to be at his Major League debut

I’ve been irrationally rooting for him ever since.

I wish he would go back to using his change up.

Does anyone remember a specific incident/point in time/line item in a news story where it was brought up?
