Would it not be interesting to setup a field with sensors?

Play one straight week and see how many calls the umps get wrong – strike zone, fair/foul over the bag, bang bangs, double plays/touching the bag, etc.

That could be accomplished now by assigning one person to watch each team for a week and note this using the video and pitch f/x

Instead of robots, I'd like to see umpires promoted and demoted based on skill.

Use a combination of anonymous ratings by players and coaches and measuring their accuracy by comparing their calls to Pitch-FX and watching replays. The worst few would get demoted to AAA, while the best AAA umpires get to come up and take their places.
