But hey, look on the bright side – Griffey is back for another year.

So for the sake of discussion,
where is SoDo on your imaginary Seattle map?
SoDo originally meant South of the Dome

Safeco is still south of the dome.
Qwest Field stands where the dome used to stand.
Should the area be called SoSo now?
South of the Stadium

I think of that part of town as the Stadium District (or something like that) and everything south of it as SoDo.

Also I don't love "Stadium District" because it's what one of the best neighborhoods in Tacoma is called.

by Aaron Campeau on May 1, 2010 2:40 PM PDT up reply actions
"One of the best neighborhoods in Tacoma."
All I could think of here was “Stadium District and…Old Town? Yeah, I like Old Town.” Because the rest of Tacoma sucks.
I disagree.
Proctor is great (and I actually prefer it to Stadium,) 6th Ave, lots of Hilltop. Tacoma is awesome.
by Aaron Campeau on May 1, 2010 2:44 PM PDT up reply actions
I mentally connect Proctor to Old Town, since coming down 705 leads straight into Old Town,
and then up to Proctor. mental slip. Because Proctor is swell; I’d love to live down in that general area.
Proctor is one of my favorite neighborhoods not just in Tacoma but anywhere else.
If it were in Seattle I would never leave.
by Aaron Campeau on May 1, 2010 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions
If it were in Seattle, I would constantly fight with myself over wanting to live in one of:
a) Green Lake
b) Phinney Ridge
c) Wallingford
d) U District
e) Capitol Hill
f) West Seattle
g) Proctor
A-C are pretty much interchangeable. Just depends on which side of the lake you want to live on. They’re culturally very similar.
Capitol Hill is really the only Seattle neighborhood I want to live in.
If there was a light rail connection between there and Georgetown, Mt. Baker, Greenwood or Wallingford it would be a different story.
Phinney has changed a lot in the past year, and it’s not a change I particularly care for.

But you can’t expect every borderline pitch to be a strike or a ball. There’s a gray area.
by Jeff Sullivan on May 1, 2010 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions
Way to work the count like a veteran Sweeney.
I mean he swings expecting results like he’s Ted Williams or something.
This is why I have given Rob less grief this year. Going 0-4 with 20 pitches seen is just so much better than 0-4 with 9 pitches. Our bad hitters can be “productive” by making the starters work. Sweeney apparently still thinks he hits too well to work a count. He’s too smart to not get it. Maybe the coaches need to shorten his leash, pull him aside, and say “Take a fucking pitch Mike.”
Rob plays more and plays the field. So he gets more of my anger.
Everything is Rob Johnson's fault.
by the other side on May 1, 2010 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions
Usually this is a plus, being a catcher and hitting better than your veteran DH.
In this case, him being a catcher is a negative. To think that someone could begin an argument that Rob Johnson is a better DH than our current ones, well that is mind-boggling. I wouldn’t like to make that case though because it will look dumb in a few months, when Griffey/Sweeney are slightly better. How hard is it to have a league average DH on your roster? It seems like the easiest spot to fill.

Kotchman almost lines one down the line, but it goes foul. Kotchman almost hits a home run, but it goes foul. Johnson almost bloops one down the line, but it goes foul. Johnson almost gets hit by a pitch, but it hits the bat.

Holy shit.
I can't fucking believe this.
I’m really getting sick of Wakamatsu.
You got owned! No weak groundout for the Griffen...
"That might be a slight exaggeration...."
If Griffey homers here, I will still think he's a worthless pile of shit that should have retired three years ago
Maybe the plan is to create more public failures for The Kid
So the public is behind them when he is cut.
For pinch-hitting for Jack Wilson?
Griffey sucks, but there is at least some potential for a homer with him up, that was the right call. You’re down the 3, the defensive downgrade is pretty meaningless at this point.
If he hits a HR, the defefnsive downgrade is very meaningful
What're ya gonna do with those pies, boys?
More likely to reach base than Jack Wilson.
Griffey sucks and I want him gone, but if he’s on the team that is the time to use him.
Their three-year OBP trends (and so far this season)
actually agree with this statement. It pains me to say this.
Okay you know what
I didn’t start following baseball until Griffey was gone. I didn’t see him in his prime. The only thing I see now is some fat ass going up to the plate and flailing late at fastballs right down broadway.
My only memories of Ken Griffey Jr. are those of him hanging on way past his prime.
Maybe this wouldn't be so bad if I had memories of prime!Griffey.
Him sticking around just makes me mad. I want to love one of the greatest sports figures in Seattle history, but all I see is someone that’s over-the-hill and either doesn’t realize he’s bad or is too prideful/selfish to admit it.
I have memories of prime!Griffey.
I’m beyond fed up with him.
I love prime Griffey
“The Double” (including his integral involvement) remains my favorite Seattle sports memory of all time.
This pathetic shadow has nothing on that man. It’s not him.

So the last four Griffey pitches
Weak groundball foul to first
Pop up foul
Pop up foul
Pop up to shallow left
All on fastballs out over the plate. Is that sequence right?
So... About that "In Z We Trust" sign...
...and now I'm here
I never bought into that bandwagon.
Z and Wak’s micro-moves with the roster drive me nuts. It’s the big ones we win.
That's like saying home runs win games.
But you and I both know they don’t. Runs win games, however they are gained. And when we keep fucking up “the little things”, they can outweigh our homers.
No, they can't.

He can dump Sweeney, bring up Langerhans, dump Jesus (or White) and bring up Hannahan...
and it wouldn’t force Wak to use those tools wisely.
Replacing Sweeney with Langerhans
And Tui with Hannahan isn’t going to make Guti, Lopez, Wilson, and Figgins hit better.

My Mariners blog SodoMojo, My Twitter Feed
by Griffin Cooper on May 1, 2010 3:30 PM PDT up reply actions
Replacing Sweeney with Langerhans gets Sweeney out of the 6th spot in the lineup.
It forces Bradley to DH, and elevates Kotchman to 6th.
Hannahan makes it possible to pinch hit for Wilson without having to suffer from the Tui defensive downgrade penalty.
I don't disagree with any of that
But I think we’ve got much more fundamental things to worry about than who’s going to take over SS in the 9th inning.
You are right, overall it won't matter if Figgins, Milton and Lopez won't hit.
But it will make the better and give the team more flexibility. Putting Bradley at DH could also save him from injury.
I don't know what opportunities are out there
But it’d sure be nice to plug someone with more upside than Langerhans into LF. And you have to assume that Z is plotting how to get someone else into 3B as well. it hurts to say it because I’m a big Lopey fan, but he’s just not Z’s type of player, and I can see him having a shorter rope.
But again, it’s pretty fruitless, since there aren’t any obvious guys to plug in there.
But can't I hold a little hope because of what I have seen this year?
Like we possibly could see a couple more good starts?
Meanwhile, somewhere out there Carlos Silva continues to get ground ball after ground ball...
Jigsaw falling into place
Bucky Jacobsen on the post game!
This is…bad.
That, and what he was right about hurt my feelings.
(Calling out Griffey over and over again)
Sigs are lame.

We should have them fight to the death for the right to stay on the roster.
And then as soon as one is victorious, hand him his release papers.
