Infield Depth

Our infield depth doesn’t look too good. Ahh… who cares. Fun starts tomorrow.

I'm not sure if this is crazy

But if Jack Wilson gets hurt we could switch Figgins to SS and then either leave Lopez at 3B and put Tui in at 2B or switch the two so that Tui is at 3B and Lopez is at 2B.

It's important to remember that Figgins signed at least in part because he was promised a permanent role.

That’s not to say he’d be unwilling to move to SS, but it is possible that he’d be unhappy to do so.

I think Wilson getting hurt with Hannahan still unhealthy though may constitute an emergency situation.

I doubt Figgins would get too mad in that case, and it may be more productive than using Josh Wilson

If Ackley is ready to go at 2B next year I bet Figgins gets shifted to 3B

Actually having Figgins play a permanent role takes away a large part of his appeal.

let's talk about 2011

a day before 2010 starts officially :)

I think it's more that he wants to know where he's playing every day.

He’d probably be fine with being switched in the off-season if it comes to that.

And I disagree that it takes away a large part of his appeal. A bit maybe, sure, but not a lot.

I don't think it's anything to worry about if it's just for a few games or a couple of weeks.

I think he’d be fine if he understood it was just to fill in for a while. If Wilson were to go down for a couple months, and they planned to use Figgins there for the whole time, that might be a different thing.

Roster looks decent to me,

just hope that Lee comes back real healthy and real soon!

Not encumbered by the thought process.

So who goes away when Lee comes back?

When Hanahan comes off the DL, does Tui get shafted again like last year?

“Congratulations Tui you made the team, however you’ll only be here for about a week before you need to go back to Tacoma”

by Scrupio on Apr 4, 2010 3:42 PM PDT reply actions

That's being shafted?

It’s the lot of younger players to get shuttled back and forth as they’re establishing themselves. I’d think he’d be glad he gets the opportunity to play in the majors for a while, if only for a couple weeks.

I really do not understand why people are so up in arms about what happens to Tui.

You know how he could make sure that he gets treated “fairly”?

Get better at baseball.

Unless I'm missing something, no lefties in the bullpen?

That seems like a problem to me, but I honestly don’t know how big a deal it really is. Or is the value of the LOOGY overstated? I know that baseball traditionalists like to talk about the value of bringing in a lefty specialist in the late innings, but maybe it’s not actually that important? Or perhaps the M’s just couldn’t find someone to fill that role?

Would you rather have a good pitcher in the bullpen or a crappy lefty specialist?

Also, with only 11 pitchers on the roster, we simply don’t have the space to carry a guy who is going to pitch sporadically to only a few batters at a time
