Fascinating about the plate discipline statistics re: Ichiro...
Ichiro’s lower swing rate is almost entirely on out-of-zone pitches, even though the amount of pitches he sees outside of the zone has gone up. He has seen 52.4% of pitches in the zone over his career, and this season is at 43.2%. This is down from last three years by ~5.5%. His O-Contact rate has also jumped by about 4% over the last three years (and 2% over last year), and his BB% is the highest it’s been since 2002.
SSS theatre, sure, but it looks like pitchers are even more scared of Ichiro (pitching around him) and he’s even more disciplined. This could turn into a lot of fun.

The Cruz bit made me go to Fangraphs…and Nelson has been worth 1.7 WAR this year in 93 plate appearances on a league minimum contract. Wow.

and im a big chris neal fan. when he was rumored to be traded to the sharks last year i was ecstatic. that being said….dany heatley still has a chance to score more goals…..crap now im definitely getting banned

How is it that people think so highly of Cheechoo
after one good year, not even a full year, of being the line mate of Joe Thornton. He’s like Mike Sweeney batting after Ichiro hits a leadoff triple every at bat the entire season.
God I noticed Jose Lopez on that play too. Annoyed the shit out of me.

I don't know, it really didn't look like that for me. The thing that got me was he makes no effort whatsoever to get at the ball. He just stands there. Whatever though I've been pretty happy with him at third overall.

Jose has done quite well at third.
He isn’t the quickest nor fleetest of foot (that ball was by him before he even reacted), but he has been getting the job done and even made a few very good plays. You really couldn’t have scripted a better transition thus far. Now if he would just get back to that whole ‘shooting for 50 walks this season’ mentality at the dish and get back to using the whole field like we saw in a few stretches last season.
