4/25: Open Game Thread
Seattle Mariners at Chicago White Sox, Apr 25, 2010 11:05 AM PDT
Inside the editorial widget I have here, there's a pulldown menu of player names from which you can choose to insert info boxes like the ones you see above. Preston Vancil's on the list.
I believe it's currently raining in Chicago. Better to be raining water than RAINING HOME RUNS LOLOLOLOL

David Price and Brandon Morrow is a pretty cool matchup
by Edgar for Pres on Apr 25, 2010 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions
A match-up of high draft picks, as I saw it advertised.
Except one is kind of good.
"Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett http://www.marinersminors.com/
Yeah Price is obviously better
But Morrow is actually doing pretty good. Morrow still has that nice curve he flashes and has the heat. Needs more location if he’s gonna be better.

Price is dominating right now
Fastball…Fastball…Fastball….strikeout

I suspect Morrow may always be one of those player that I assume is doing worse than he actually is.

Really? I was gonna go the other way.
by Edgar for Pres on Apr 25, 2010 11:40 AM PDT up reply actions
faint praise?
I was optimistic about him for a while, and rationalized the pick as having some potential, but in time, for me he became something like the major league equivalent of Emiliano Fruto to me, great stuff but never consistently successful starting or relieving, except in Morrow’s case we had to listen to him toe the company line for a while, in the most ass way possible, and then bitch once he left. He had every reason to bitch, mind you, but it didn’t sit well either.

Dude, I counted almost 300 words in one Melville sentance in Moby Dick.
You’re nowhere near as wasted as that guy was when he wrote the Great American Novel.
And that was before stream of consciousness became the hot thing.
I kind of love American Realism though.
"Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett http://www.marinersminors.com/
I think I like watching a mediocre pitcher who struggles but obviously has the stuff to suceed
than a average boring pitcher so I’m a sucker for pitchers who have potential.
by Edgar for Pres on Apr 25, 2010 11:50 AM PDT up reply actions
I have a soft spot for pitchers who succeed despite wimpy stuff.
Travis Blackley!….
"Ever tried? Ever failed? No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett http://www.marinersminors.com/
I might have a soft spot for them
but I don’t really love watching them pitch. Its often painful watching a guy trying to get a guy out with below average fastballs and breaking balls hoping that moxie will pull him through. I’ll root for them but really if I had my choice I would take a guy who throws 100 mph with a sick curve that racks up 6 BB/9 because if he ever figures out how to locate he’s gonna be amazing….(of course he’ll never learn to locate and instead all the missed pitches will go for HR and he’ll suck)

How has Tuiasosopo looked at shortstop?
I haven’t had a chance to watch the last few games. I am intrigued as I think he is athletic enough to not embarrass himself there, and he has the offensive upside when he gets adjusted to big league pitchers. What have you noticed?
He booted an easy play two days ago
Didn’t catch him doing anything yesterday.
by Jeff Sullivan on Apr 25, 2010 10:57 AM PDT up reply actions
I will be watching closely
…though I probably like seeing him playing more than I should. (at least I admit it)
He can barely manage to not embarass himself at 2B
So, you can probably count on him being a terrible shortstop.
For all the crap that has been given to Jack Wilson
he is a vital part of our defense and has shown a lot more confidence in the batter’s box thus far. The NL to AL transition seems to be coming to a close as he hits near his career average.

Truthfully my first thought was WOOO!
But then I remembered I live in Oakland and he’s one of the few reasons to go see an A’s game. Plus I’d rather their shitty players suck like they should.
by Edgar for Pres on Apr 25, 2010 11:44 AM PDT up reply actions
I feel I shouldn't feel guilty about being happy for players like that getting hurt--
It’s their fault for playing for a divisional rival.
You are a better fan than I
I wouldn’t feel guilty if he sucked but he’s kind of one of the A’s only hope. Its kind of like if Grienke got hurt.
by Edgar for Pres on Apr 25, 2010 11:48 AM PDT up reply actions
Yeah if Grienke got hurt I would be sad
If he was on the A’s, Angels, or Rangers I would hope it was career-ending
So...
what are the chances Milton Bradley is also ‘injured’ our next Chicago series? Higher or lower than the odds that he’ll actually be injured?
Are we looking at the same lineup card?
I think they’re worried at least as much about the mentality of their clubhouse, and keeping Bradley out of a dangerous situation, especially early on, is part of that. The calf thing is a nice occasion, and maybe if he felt great, they’d put him out there, but if we were playing the Royals today, I’m betting he’d play.
Ok its POURING there.
Why did they start the game haha.

Holy Shit!
The slowest man in the history of the universe got a triple.
Boo-yrnes!
Right now I'm dreaming of Carl Crawford. Maybe next year...(or this year at the trade deadline)...
Good fucking job Adam.
Way to not suck like Captain Useless Byrnes.
Kotchman triples and Moore flips one into right.
Not how I ever imagined us scoring a run.
What a blind luck triple followed by our rookie catcher hitting a weak fliner into right to score?
that’s EXACTLY how I pictured us scoring runs

I like the cut of his jig.

The White Sox broadcasters
are the most boring people ever.
Right now I'm dreaming of Carl Crawford. Maybe next year...(or this year at the trade deadline)...
I also like how they refer to the other team
as the “bad guys”. How nice of them.

Could be worse, the DBacks could still have Eric Byrnes

Crap, Rick Porcello is also getting rocked.
6-4 Texas in the bottom of the 2nd.
28.
Otherwise, yeah. I mean, they could have used someone else from last night’s set, like Triunfel hitting his second home run in as many games or something.

Oddly enough, the one who's really sucked has been RRS.
But I don’t know whether to panic or not since I haven’t really watched him pitch. His velocity seems normal enough, but his command and control have been off.
No 9th inning, no 9th inning walk-off home run... c'mon rain....
