tough to argue with that

Though Felix needs to get his ass out of the way. I’m worried about him doing something crazy in the field to get hurt than Rob hurting him. Like standing in the way of a sliding base runner

KKKK!

Karma police, arrest this man.

by wyte_lightning on Apr 21, 2010 8:37 PM PDT reply actions

Hmm. Dave Trembely sez it is all Rickey Henderson's fault.

Jones entered Wednesday night 6-for-27 (.222) on the current road trip and 0-for-8 in the series against the Seattle Mariners, his old team, his average dropping to .215.

“He’s swinging at way too many bad pitches,” Trembley said of Jones. “I probably did him a disservice by introducing him to Rickey Henderson the other day in Oakland. I told Rickey Henderson, ‘I’d like Jones to impersonate Rickey Henderson a few times and get us on the board with a leadoff homer.’ Rickey Henderson is the best in the world at doing that, and I think Jones is thinking that he’s got to do that. He’s a great kid. If they throw him a strike, he’ll do what he can do with it. But you can’t do that if you’re swinging at pitches in the dirt or over your head.”

by msb on Apr 21, 2010 8:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Great coaching.

Tell him to swing for the fences every time. Great move dipshit.

Everything is Rob Johnson's fault.

Yeah, let's make him impersonate a guy with one of the most unique skillsets in history.

What could possibly go wrong?

Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?

by Benne on Apr 21, 2010 8:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Trembley before the game

"It’s time to dial it up and get this thing going in a positive direction and quit accepting it and saying ’it’s ok’ because it’s not ok," he said. "It’s not ok at all. I’m tired of covering for people. I’m not going to cover for them anymore."

"I’ve been in a position where I’m a really nice fella and I’ll cover and I’ll get questions point blank and I feel like I’m a damn presidential press secretary sometimes instead of telling it what is it, I have to smooth it over," he said. "I’m not smoothing it over anymore. Everybody here is intuitive enough. I love the players. There are people that want to see them fail. I’m not one of them. I don’t want to see them fail. I want to see the Baltimore Orioles succeed. I know the odds are against us but I think we can do it. I think we can do it. That’s how I feel."

by Ryan Divish on Apr 21, 2010 8:45 PM PDT up reply actions

I feel guilty about it

But I get a sick sense of satisfaction from knowing that it may have been a recent loss to the M’s that caused a manager of a struggling team to finally crack.

by JLC on Apr 21, 2010 8:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Rickey Henderson also drew a shit-ton of walks.

Which he did by having a tiny strike zone and being selective as fuck. Yes, let’s take from that “try to hit more homeruns”. I’m starting to see why O’s fans hate the guy.

by Johnny Slick on Apr 21, 2010 8:45 PM PDT up reply actions

more from the Sun article

Jones acknowledged that he has been trying too hard to make up the offense lost with leadoff man Brian Roberts on the disabled list.

“Maybe, sometimes, I’m in my own head,” Jones said. “I might be trying too hard. I’m just trying to do too much instead of just having a simple approach. [Nick Markakis] is the same way. Me and him talked about it today, and we are trying to do too much, just really trying to pick up the slack. We just need to go back to the simple approach that got us here. We just need base hits. I think some guys are trying to get the big hit rather than just a hit.”

I don’t think that he’s entirely finished developing as a hitter, as he was really up and down (though slightly gimpy) last season, so I don’t think it would hurt him exactly.

Hey new posters, stop posting fucking asinine comments that none of us want to read. Be funny. Be creative. Otherwise, shut the fuck up.

by OlSalty on Apr 21, 2010 11:25 PM PDT up reply actions

But!

And this is an important but! Lurk from time to time, get an idea of what works and jump in when you feel comfortable.

You’ve got the right idea, TrustBaseball, in that waiting until you have something to add is a good thing. But don’t take that to mean you never will.

I love John Carew.

If you're a new poster, even if you're not adding something good at the start, we don't care that much

as long as you’re respectful of others and follow the site rules – as long as you make progress towards being a good poster, it’s fine. Just don’t be a horrible one

by seattlebruin on Apr 22, 2010 9:40 AM PDT up reply actions

You seem to get this, which already makes you a better commenter than they are.

Really we don’t want to chase you away. As long as you’re respectful to others you’re going to be just fine here.

Thanks guys, I'll do my best.

It’s certainly nice to get a warm welcome. I’ve been lurking for a long time and I am outside your general demographic. I’m an old woman and I won’t abuse the invitation to post. Thank you.

So gamethreads have been bad this season

Or so I gather, since I’m pretty new to LL. What do good gamethreads look like?

by BrownL on Apr 21, 2010 9:27 PM PDT reply actions

They:

A) are more back-and-forth instead of reaction focused
B) filled with people that don’t post stupid opinions
C) funny

It's A that makes me most sad

Posting a player’s name in all caps each time they do something is so boring.

I still get excited whenever something happens and want to make an excited post in the gamethread

but I also want to participate in the discussion that’s going on.

What’s frustrating/disturbing to me is that it seems like a lot of the good game thread banter is now taking place between regulars on non-LL channels. IT might be nice if everyone came together and bantered in the gamethread one day instead. Perhaps the Lee start or the next Felix day.

by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2010 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Well, I've still enjoyed following the game threads

Better than staring at Gameday, to be sure. I suppose I should invest in MLBtv

by BrownL on Apr 21, 2010 9:39 PM PDT up reply actions

Gamethreads can still be fun

but we have high standards here. We want people to make good posts.

by seattlebruin on Apr 21, 2010 9:40 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know why you guys are letting this thread get you down

I’ll be cracking open a fresh 6 pack to commemorate the first sweep of the season. Good times!

Gamethreads are supposed to be fun.

To this point, they have ranged from barely tolerable to fucking awful. It’s annoying.

I'm going to have to babysit this weekend's, I'm sure

Watching the thread rather than the game will put me in a wonderful mood

I'm sticking to our SSS mantra

Still a lot of new posters around, and we haven’t quite separated the wheat from the chaff yet. Plus, something I brought up earlier, but I think a lot of it has to do with the first homestead of the year, and most of the regular posters are at the stadium.

I think things should improve pretty soon. I hope.

Damn. Sorry to hear that.

I was under the impression that trolls just got automatically banned to prevent things from getting out of hand.

by DrunkAmerican on Apr 21, 2010 9:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Please flag more in these threads

I’ll go through them and start banning if I have to

by Graham MacAree on Apr 21, 2010 9:40 PM PDT up reply actions   1 recs

Absolutely.

This is a habit I’m trying to get in myself, and is much more productive than 10 straight comments of “SHUT THE FUCK UP.”

It's really therapeutic, very nice stress release.

I’m not sure if there’s a proper flag comment, so I just pop off a rant and try to be humorous about it. Write them in the voice of different people. Tends to be R. Lee Ermey more often than not.

Not really trolls either.

Johnny Slick started off okay, but soon got obnoxious, and didn’t know he was obnoxious and kept posting obnoxious shit until we got tired of it.

We've worked very hard to create a community here over the past few years

it’s very frustrating to watch people come in and disrespect our rules and customs in gamethreads, which have traditionally been among the best threads on Lookout Landing.

We don’t ask that new posters don’t post – in fact, it’s the opposite. We just want people to post better.

Miguel Cabrera owed us that one.

Beautiful

Only 53 more Games Finished until Fuentes option kicks in. Oh, how I wish Matt Capps were a free agent next year so the Angels could make the same mistake every off season!
