Visit to Safeco

I grew up in Tacoma and went to many Kingdome games during my childhood, but I have not spent much time at Safeco.  Every time I visit home the Mariners seem to be on the road, but fortunately I will be in town for the 4th and the Ms play on the 5th (albeit against the Royals).

I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere, but I couldn't find it after doing a search.  Where do you suggest I get tickets?  Bleachers?  Upper deck behind home?  I'm willing to splurge.  Has anyone ever sat in the Diamond Club?  Is it worth it?  I can get tickets on StubHub for $200 each.  Thank you for the help.

I've sat in nearly every unique section of the park

Including suites, terrace club, Diamond Club, right behind the M’s dugout, various 300-level seats, etc…

Diamond club is only “worth it” if you feel like buying your (very costly) food with your ticket. If you can score some 100-level infield seats, you’ll get far more for your money…and if you can manage to get in the first couple rows, I’d even argue that they’re better than the Diamond Club…but that depends on whether you prefer to be right next to or right behind the action.

Terrace Club is nice, but unless you’re picky about food/beer selection, there’s no massive draw (plus, the Diamond Club/some of the infield 100-level seats (think first couple rows) give access to the Terrace Club anyways. Bleachers out in LF are great for a cheap seat, but be sure to bring a hat/shades if it’s a day game. It will get HOT there.

My favorite seat in the house is front-row (actually counted as row 4ish) behind the home dugout.

I've sat in a lot of different places at Safeco

Including all up and down both first and third base lines, box seats (once, very cool experience), 3rd deck, 2nd deck. I haven’t ever sat between the foul poles though, but I’m going to make a point of doing that this year.

Excuse the LLLJ, but my point is that everywhere I’ve sat in Safeco, I’ve had a great time. I haven’t sat in a spot where I couldn’t see the whole field, and see it well. Obviously, the closer you are the more you’ll feel like you’re actually in the game rather than observing it, so if I had a preference, I’d sit as close to the field as possible.

But, you really can’t go wrong in my opinion.

Seriously

In my opinion, Lower outfield reserved (which 108 is part of) is the best value seat. Better view than anything in the bleachers or the 300 level, cheapest seats on the field.

But if you’re willing to splurge, I would go for a box seat as close to home plate as possible. I had a few games in a pretty good seat there last year, and the view was pretty sweet.

In addition to the aforementioned Section 108

I really like section 152, right next to the visitors bullpen above the hand operated scoreboard. The only seats to truly avoid are sections 306-310, the upper deck in right field – you won’t see most of RF from up there, especially the higher you go.

Section 108 and thereabouts in the first row is really damn awesome, and can get down pretty close without a ticket on weekday series.

LF bleachers are also tolerable if you can get close to the front, and they’re pretty cheap.
As close as straight behind home plate as you can on the first level is the best for Felix days, though. Watching the ridiculous movement on his pitches is amazing.

I avoid the 300 level like the plague, though, I’d rather watch from the first level concourse.

I buy Terrace Club when it's a busy game like Opening Day.

It gives you access to huge private sections, there’s hard liquor if you like, the seats are plushy and more comfy, you can sit in your seat or grab a barstool on the inside counters looking over the field, bathrooms with usually no wait ever, and fewer people to bob and weave around.

If it isn’t an in demand game, buy cheaper seats and walk around. Games that are 2/3 to half or less sold, I buy any ticket and just sit all over the ballpark. Most ushers I’ve met are nice and you can find banks of seats no one is in.
