Riding an offensive hot streak
is something many teams do. It may not be justified, but if Jeff Mathis is hitting really fucking good, and he can play defense, they’ll keep him in for a while. It won’t last, and they know that. They’ve watched Mathis play for a while.

Using linear game to say what would have happened is almost as bad as using errors to measure defense. If Ichiro isn’t running (which was a decision we made), its 1 out with Guti up and Ichiro at 1B.

I think we're seeing a player who is having a hard time hitting ML pitching the first two weeks here
and he had little confidence he could hit the ball hard.
