I don't remember the last time when we had 4 game winning streak.
IT CERTAINLY IS AWESOME!

Just looked it up
Only happened twice all of last season. A 6 gamer in April and a 4 gamer much later in the season.
I understand the joke you made there and think it was quite clever.
(Since “I see what you did there” is a dead meme)

Maybe tomorrow there will be NO soda in the clubhouse
We might score 20 runs.
Reading through today's game thread was like an acid trip.

Yes, it was the strangest game thread I've seen!!
It was all about the Cards-Mets game.
I'd be very surprised to hear you knew what an acid trip was like, but now I want to read through tonight's game thread.

Didn't remind me of any acid trip I've ever taken.
Fun stuff, but not really an acid trip.

A win against Verlander should count for two wins
I hope Scherzer continues with diminished fastball again tomorrow
Stats are not a euphemism for tits
Today ended up not turning out that bad
After watching my other team get no hit, I’m okay. M’s get back to .500, Ichiro has a great night, I watched Felipe Lopez pitch, Griffey gives up soda. What a night.
Ichiro hitting for the cycle
He has never done this. I wonder if he knows what it is.
Someone shoud tell him so he can do it.
I wonder how many times he came within 1 hit of a cycle (just needed a home run tonight)
Well
when average 8 triples and 9 HRs per 162 games, it’s going to be pretty rare for both to happen in the same game.

In the bottom of the first, with men on 1st and 3rd and one out
why didn’t Gutierrez score when Griffey hit into that FC?
Honestly, it just looked like bad awareness to me. As soon as Verlander slipped, Guti should've been off for home.

I'm guessing they told him to stay. Verlander could have thrown home.
Wasn’t likely, but you don’t want him to make an out at the plate.
by TrustBaseball on Apr 17, 2010 11:38 PM PDT up reply actions
Shouldn't he have gone for home even without the slip?
If he throws home, you get in a rundown and wind up with 1st + 2nd and two out. If he tries for the dp, there’s no harm in going for home and hoping he botches it, like he did.

In a not insignificant number of instances, that chopper up the middle becomes a hit.
Verlander made a nice play to glove it, let alone record an out.
That doesn't explain why he would/should hold at third.
by Rollo Tomasi on Apr 18, 2010 12:02 AM PDT up reply actions
I was agreeing with you more than anything.
It was a weird play.
I admit, I don't know why he was still at third when the play was over.
I’m just guessing that it was all based on caution, since we only had one out at that point. You don’t want to get the runner out at home if he’s sitting on third with only one out.
by TrustBaseball on Apr 18, 2010 12:22 AM PDT up reply actions
The grounder was caught by the pitcher right away
and Verlander didn’t fall on his ass until he turned to throw to 2nd. If the pitcher had handled it normally he could have caught Franklin easily if he had taken off for home. By the time Verlander slipped Franklin had already gotten back to third.

I know,
but going for home is still the best play, because there isn’t much difference between 1st & 3rd with 2 out and 1st & 2nd with 2 out. So you don’t really lose anything by going for home, whereas you potentially gain a run.
by Rollo Tomasi on Apr 18, 2010 10:13 AM PDT up reply actions
Worst case scenario is that you give up a runner on third
and get one on second, which isn’t a big deal with two outs. But most of the time in that situation, the pitcher tries for the dp, so you want to be going for home in case he botches it. If he throws you out at home, you still have a runner in scoring position anyway.

Dave Cameron said that this first month would be "surviving" mode.
At 6-6, with Lee and Bedard on the shelf, I’m feeling pretty fucking good with the “surviving” part right now.
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
I'm with you here. All we need to do this month is stay respectable.
.500 baseball is that. I think Dave’s right, once Lee and Bedard show up we should be able to do more that survive. And if we aren’t already in a hole, that would be great.
by TrustBaseball on Apr 18, 2010 12:19 AM PDT up reply actions
Our April schedule is also very easy
We should come out of it above .500 since our next 3 opponents have a combined record of 9-26.
BAHAHAHA
From mlb.com on the Mets-Cards game:
Rodriguez, who had warmed up every inning from the eighth through the 19th, estimated that he threw more than 100 pitches in the bullpen. And he admitted to being somewhat gassed by the time Manuel finally called his name.
I guess that's the downside of trying to save your best reliever for if the team takes the lead.
