We go to the bottom of the 19th!
Mets lead, 1-0.
Let's restate this here.
The 3rd baseman played pitcher, then played third. Question? has just made my week.
...and now I'm here
Baseball's the only sport where equipment suddenly breaking is considered normal.

It's pretty sad the Mets could only score 1 run in 2 innings against position players pitching.

Ok, so I just get home, check up on the scores, and look down the list...
I notice the Mets vs. Cards in the first looking down for the Mariners. I smile when I see we are up 2 to 1, then scan back up the list and see the mets vs. Cards in the 9th.
After a quick double take i realize its the flipping 19TH!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!?!
ACTUALLY NO, THIS IS BETTER
BECAUSE NO PUJOLS CAN TIE IT. AND PROLONG THE GAME ANOTHER INNING.

What the hell? I watch puppies on Ustream. Never knew they'd show baseball w/o MLB removing it.
Shows me how Nazi-ish NBC was with the Olympics.
20 Inning game, Mariner baseball, and an NBA fight
Tonight is going well
Just KG being KG
Paul Pierce got hurt on the sidelines, Quentin Richardson went to check on Pierce to see if he was ok… Then KG proceeded to elbow Richardson and looked at him like “Get the hell away from here.”
Shoves were exchanged, KG was ejected.. and that’s about it.
Can't the Cards let whatever starter had their throw day today throw one inning?
Determined, Jonesing Commentor
My mind the past 30 seconds:
“Ah, just got home from work, time to crack open a cold one and watch the Mar—-HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS IN THE 20TH INNING!”
Is that the light at the end of the tunnel, or the headlights of an oncoming train?
So that Mather guy is a really good pitcher.
Only a ~3:1 ball to strike ratio!
A Mariners fan in Seattle
NL record, not MLB record.
We need to go 12 for the real record anyway. Triple A game got to the 32nd inning…
Players not in the game yet
Cardinals: Carpenter, Penny, Wainwright
Mets: Pelfrey, Perez
Gameday is wrong about the Mets roster
There’s still two more starters that weren’t listed for some reason- they don’t have a 10 man staff

But he got the out?

Okay come summer I'm going to have to do a Sounders/Mariners day.
Anybody know what dates those might be?
Also...
May 22nd – Sounders/Ms
June 5th Ms/Sounders
July 11th Ms/Sounders
July 25th Ms(vs BoSox)/Sounders
Aug 8th Ms/Sounders
Holy hell there’s a ton of these
There's also 3 international friendlies somewhere in there this summer that are TBA
If there’s a double-up with those it could be really impressive.
Now that would be fun.
I’m definitely going to do one of the above though.
July 11th the M's play the Yankees and the Sounders play later that night.

The worst team we’re going to have all season and it looks to me there is a very good chance we will be in first place come May 1st

Cliff Lee.
Everything is Rob Johnson's fault.

I really like knowing this.

I dunno
the schedules all pretty much balance out in the end. Having an easy time of it now means we’ll be boned later.

Bedard is not at all
That’s a huge question mark. Lee should get up to speed quickly but whatever. We’ve been getting amazing starts from out back end guys. Hard to say we’ve lost anything there.

When you add two bona-fide left-handed aces to a rotation with an amazing defense and league-average offense
I’m not sure if you can overhype that
No.
Bearskin is saying we’re having an easy time of it now and it will get worse down the line. But right now we don’t have Lee and Bedard, and they will strengthen us down the line.
I understand this
Acting as if May 1st is the day we go dancing to the division title isn’t how this works. Lee won’t be at strength for a while. Bedard probably won’t be until sometime in June. It’s going to be a while.
Then you're missing the point of my post, because nothing I said had anything to do with that.
Bearskin was worried about the season getting harder, and I’m saying we’re getting better along with the competition.
Cliff Lee probably adds 5 wins to this teams true talent level from May to the rest of the year
If you don’t think that’s huge I don’t know what to tell you. Of course that guarantees nothing, but it sure makes it a lot more likely that it would’ve been if we had tanked in August.
I also understand this
But I’m also saying be patient. He’s not gonna come sprinting out of the gate the first week of May.
Actually, they're building up his arm strength to make sure he's in season form
That’s why it’s taking as long as it is.
Throwing two BP sessions, a 3 inning sim game, and a minor league rehab start isn't it
He’s not stretched out at all.
Funny thing:
he’s also not returning tomorrow!
He's been pain-free since the start of the season
They’re putting him in controlled situations to make sure he doesn’t re-injure himself, but it’s also to get him some of the spring training reps he missed.
He threw 63 pitches yesterday and doesn't return for another 2 1/2 weeks
Dont expect him to be dynamite in his first appearance of anything but he will be stretched out. This is sort of his spring training right now.
Yea, that's what I was trying to get at
He’s going to be on a pitch count and won’t be at full strength for a bit. It’s like everyone else has a month+ head start.
You just said he wouldn't be stretched out at all
And now you’re agreeing that he will be stretched out.
Whatever, Mariners win!
They don't though
All the other pitchers had the month of March. Lee has the month of April. Same amount of time to get ready, should expect him to be ready just like all other pitchers were ready on opening day. If he is on a pitch count, it’ll probably be 100 pitches, or if they still have injury concerns for some reason maybe slightly less.
True
I wasn’t as confident as him firing out of the gates, figuring they were still going to baby him a little bit since the oblique can be a nagging injury.
Other teams have injuries too

If you're comparing other team's DL to Cliff Lee (+5 wins) and Erik Bedard (even if just league average, +2 wins over Vargas/Fister)...
Then you’re nuts.
Kinsler's a +4 player.
His best season was last year at 4.6 WAR. Lee alone eclipses that bonus.
Which isn't to say that Kinsler isn't good.
Just as a point of comparison in win value.
Right, just saying it hurts them a lot
And for all we know Bedard could be completely broken. Sure hope not, but any projections on his value should probably wait.
That's not the point though
RIght now we’re not at full strength by a longshot, we more than likely will be by the time we have to face the big boys.
Not having a terrible April was hugely important, let alone possibly being ahead.
In other words
This could very well become the best case scenario.
Or further, every loss in April when our team was mediocre is another win we'd need to make up when the team is at full strength
Getting lucky and winning a lot of games in April above the true talent level of the team as it is compossed now improves our playoff chances. A lot.
Imagine how much fun it would be
If we’re leading the division when our rotation becomes Felix, Lee, Bedard, RR-S, Vargas/Snell/Fister
Thanks for the reminder that we have three number five starters in our rotation right now.
Everything is Rob Johnson's fault.

I think it'll be the other way around
I think one of them will come out shining. Just a hunch, nothing more.
