Hyphen Shirts For Sale
Frustrated by my inability to purchase a Hyphen shirt, I went ahead and made one on Zazzle. Realizing that other fans may be interested, I posted it for public sale:
http://www.zazzle.com/hyphen_shirt-235887494426196190
The Hyphen is teal (0x008080), the shirt is Navy Blue. You know, so no one mistakenly thinks you're supporting the hyphenated-named player from some other team.
My apologies on the price, but that was the cheapest I could get on a Navy Blue shirt with such a small order (1). You can make it cheaper by putting the "design" on a plain white or black t-shirt. If someone out there is more enterprising then I, you could go ahead and print a gang of shirts and get a much lower price in bulk, but then really what are you going to do with 50 hyphen shirts?
Edit: Within ten minutes of posting this I've been accused of spammy profiteering. Full disclosure, it's true, I will make a whopping $2 for every one of these shirts that sells through Zazzle. However, I'm not doing this as some sort of big money t-shirt scheme. I wanted a teal on Navy hyphen shirt, so I made this and checked the "Post for Public Sale" box, thinking other folks might want one as well. If you'd like to make your own, by all means, do it. If you do it through Zazzle it'll cost the same as just buying this one. If you're all really concerned that I'm going to make a killing off of these t-shirt sales, then I'll happily agree that any and all "proceeds" will be donated to the Edgar Martinez Foundation.

So what would stop any of us from creating our own design and try profiting off the sales?
It’s a plain t-shirt with a hyphen on it. Take your spam elsewhere.
Nothing would stop you
And I’m sorry if you think this is Spam.
I wanted a shirt with a teal hyphen on navy blue. I made it on Zazzle, and figured others might want it, so I checked the box that says: “Post for public sale”.
Look, honestly, I’m not doing this as some sort of profiteering enterprise. My “cut” of these shirt sales is the lowest the site allows, which means it’ll take about 20 shirt sales to make back my costs on my individual shirt.
If you want I can also agree to give any all profits to the charity of your choice.
Just edited the post
I’ll happily donate any and all proceeds to the Edgar Martinez Foundation. Honestly, I’m not doing this as a money making scheme. I have a job and it doesn’t include t-shirt sales.
I just thought other folks might want one.
Okay, that's fine
I wanted a teal on Navy shirt, so I used Zazzle.
Just for future avoidance of what almost became a ridiculous overreaction
Next time, preface what you wrote with a little about yourself (regular reader, not spam, etc), so people know where you’re coming from – a lot of drive-by spam comes from unfamiliar user names, and I’m pretty sure that your new-ish name set off some alarm bells for people.
Thanks, and apologies
I’m a long-time reader but hadn’t made an account mostly because I didn’t feel like I had a ton to contribute to what was already a vibrant community. I wasn’t trying to spam and I’m certainly not going to be making any money off of this. I just wanted to share in case other folks were interested.
Can we be a little bit friendlier, guys?

No kidding.
I think this is awesome, and would totally buy one with my next paycheck, especially if I know that money is going to Edgar’s charity.

"You know, so no one mistakenly thinks you're supporting the hyphenated-named player from some other team."
Fortunately, RR-S is the only hyphenated-named player on any team.
(I think this is still true)
Shin-Soo Choo has one
And I think there are a couple others…..Fu-Te Ni
This...
When I created the whole Hyphen nickname back in the day, it was precisely because his would be the first jersey with a hyphen on it. Plenty of players before have had hyphenated first names, but RR-S was the inaugural player with one in his last name. Jersey=Last Name…
Except Ichiro — who should be the first player to have an exclamation point on his jersey.

Fu-Te Ni is the first Jawa in the MLB, correct?
Thank God someone finally broke that barrier.

:*-(
There went my whole “=” plan. The Mariners cornering the market on hyphenated jerseys, and having RR-S and AB-D be the dueling hyphens, aka the “=”…
Last I checked Austin was progressing as a starting pitcher in the Cubs’ system.

Also...
It appears the Mariners might well be cashing in on this craze as well. Kevin Martinez, the M’s director of Marketing, has been all over this on Twitter.
Damn, I should’ve trademarked the nickname…

I have been wondering this for a while but why do you use ellipses in the manner you do?
I just seems a little unnecessary.

I just love ellipses.
sometimes it is a pause, sometimes it is letting a thought percolate, sometimes it is letting the comment stretch out a skooch.
Perhaps I need an ellipses shirt.
I will use a period when I make my last comment on LL.
Until then…

I don't think you're the only person to have thought of it.

Probably not, but he was the first.

My shirt arrived
FYI, the hyphen skews a little to the blue end of the spectrum (web colors may not translate awesomely to shirt printing) but otherwise it’s exactly what I expected: a teal bar on a blue shirt.
So, if anyone out there is going to make their own, I’d recommend using a color with a just a tad more green in it. If you’re not super picky, a hyphen is a hyphen is Hyphen.
I have a buddy in the business
and he can print you up the same shirt in the exact colors you want plus put Rowland-Smith’s number on it just like on the team jerseys (white w/teal outline).
I can get these for about $7 each with an order of 30 or more.
