Mauer Extension Done
So says Ken Rosenthal. According to Joe Christensen at the Star Tribune it's 8/$184 with a full no-trade clause.

Really fair deal for both sides.
I go to law school. Therefore, I have no life.

I love it.
Only because New York and Boston are shut out from acquiring Mauer.
Pretty hefty deal to live up to, though. Hopefully he stays healthy and behind the plate.
Yeah, Twins fans are pretty happy right now
I hope Mauer stays healthy and productive through the whole deal.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
I second this.
Maybe he would have been less of a jerk if he had stayed. His contract would be up by now.
Right now I'm dreaming of Carl Crawford. Maybe next year...(or this year at the trade deadline)...
Good move for baseball
Not so sure I like it for the Twins. 23 mil? Seems a little expensive. I hope it works out well for both sides.

At $3.5M to $4M per win
That values him as a 6-7 Win player. According to Fangraphs he’s averaged over 5 WAR since 2005 (ignoring his brief appearance in 2004) and peaked at 8.1 last year — and that’s all with his bat, since there’s no UZR for catchers. CHONE thinks he’s a 7 win player for 2010. He probably won’t keep that up, especially if he has to move to another position at some point, but some of the money could be deferred as well. In any case, as with Felix, this is the guy they can build a team around and claim to be serious about perpetually contending. And there are of course the very real, if not so easily-calculated, off-field benefits to locking him in — and not just because he sells tickets and is the face of the franchise. With the new stadium the timing is perfect.
I think Mauer is the type of player that might trancend WAR a bit in terms of value.
I mean that in the terms of the Twins’ actual bottom line. With a new stadium, they need to get people in the stands consistently, and having the local hero around for the next decade does that. Most big contract guys go to place where they’re already gonna sell a ton of tix always. Minnesota is not one of those places, which is why this is important.
