I had BYU upsetting KSU in one of my brackets.
Then I slept on it and realized BYU’s history in big moments.
I have BYU over Kansas State in the bracket I submitted for my money pool
I’m aware that I’m an idiot

Yes, and our office typically has the game on..and most everyone is watching on their computers.
So if a game is close at the end we all congregate by the front desk to watch on the flatscreen. I love the first day of the tournament!
I fucking hate you Mariners
Leaving early today and have tomorrow off
should be perfect.
This time tomorrow, I’m going to be at one of the better beer bars in SD, watching 20 flatscreens all around me and drinking assorted delicacies from New Belgium and Russian River

That's doing it right.
Congratulations. (Yes, I’m incredibly jealous)
Can't get to a TV?
They are streaming all 16 games today live here http://mmod.ncaa.com/

Good call!
if you’re watching on MMOD though, just don’t forget the streams are usually about 60-90 seconds slow so don’t get mad about spoilers on LL =)

team you usually couldn’t care less about is down five with 9 minutes to play in the first half? PANIC!!!

On MMOD you can’t change games when the one you are watching goes to commercial. So you have to watch the commercials. This is going to get really obnoxious once games get into the closing seconds.

Villanova is actually going to lose
What the FUCK was Florida doing!?
Not that I mind.. but wow.
by seattlesundevil on Mar 18, 2010 11:39 AM PDT reply actions
Almost looked like it was a designed play to draw the defense out and then lob it down inside where the taller Florida players would grab and crash the boards.
I'd have to see it again,
but I doubt it. I think that BYU surprised Florida by showing so aggressively on the ballscreen. I hadn’t seen them show that aggresive in the short time I’ve been watching the game. I think the guard was surprised, so retreated, then realized ‘oh shit I gotta do something quick’ and tried to make a really difficult pass.

Yeah I love the first two rounds of the tournament
after that it gets boring

I blame it on the non-stop action during the first two rounds.
After that, it becomes regular basketball and the last two minutes of the game takes 30 minutes to complete.
Dribble-Foul-Timeout-Free throw-Timeout-Dribble-Foul-Timeout-Free throw-Timeout…..
Pretty much
that and the fewer chances for major upsets, and the fact that the games are spaced out more.

I can’t believe Dempsey’s back, and I’m really starting to think he doesn’t suck.

I don't like Vandy since they beat WSU a few years back.
Plus the gf went there, and being that we’re both really competitive, I can’t like them. So here’s to Murray State!
TouchMyIchiro
Good
in general, the smaller college teams tend to be more experienced and play better team offense/defense because players don’t defect early to Europe, the NBA or because they have 0.6 GPAs.
When you can do that with big-school caliber athletes, it’s a very good recipe for sustained success (though rarely at an elite level)

Console suggestion?
I’m debating between PS3 / Wii / 360. I’m exclusively a sports gamer — most likely NCAA Football, NBA, and MLB. I don’t play much online, though that could change I guess. I’d probably use it to watch Blu-Rays if I got the PS3 and I’d use it to stream Netflix in either the 360 or PS3 scenario.
I know the basic arguments for an against all three, but I’m open to your guys’ input.

It's worth noting that you have to be a Gold member to use Netflix on the 360.
If you’re into online gaming, it’s no big deal because Xbox Live is a great service, but if you’re not a fan, paying for Gold just to get Netflix is kind of a bitch.
Ahhh, ok.. I never use it, I just remember seeing friends use it
I am a gold and my subscription was up at the end of January. My credit card was expired, so they couldn’t charge it and told me to add a new one so I could keep my gold. I still haven’t and my gold account is still active take THAT MS

And I prefer 360.
My PS3 is basically an over priced blue ray player. And the Wii is fun to play silly games with my wife, but even she prefers the Xbox, but there are not many two player games she enjoys.

Unless you have any interest in the PS3 library exclusives, a 360.
Multiplatform games for the most part seem to perform better on the 360 because designers are more familiar with the API Microsoft uses.
Live is a better online service (even though there’s a $30-50 yearly fee depending on wher eyou look) than PSN.
Heck, the controller feels more comfortable as well.
Its not so much familiarity as it is
DirectX is a lot easier to understand than the PS3 SDK.

I have no idea how the possession arrow works but my teams have never ever benefited from it even once.
It's like an alternating jump ball
and it includes the opening tip – so if you win the tip, the other team has the arrow for the next jump ball. Every time they call a jump ball, the team with the arrow gets it, and the arrow switches to the other team

Nope.
And nobody has a perfect bracket anymore. This has been a brutal tourney with upsets. I wasn’t expecting too many, and— surprise!— there have been an abnormal amount.
Ohio jobbed the most brackets. I can’t believe there were people who still had perfect brackets going after that.
I learned yesterday that being ahead by 10+ points doesn't mean anything...
And I don’t want to jinx my Zags, but golly they’re doing well.
Yeah, the key is to get as many teams into the Elite 8.
Big points start accumulating there. And you basically have to predict the championship game and winner to take your group.

Hand-eye coordination is probably genetic to some point, right? In my experience I think you can definitely learn to shoot better, but there are some people who are just born shooters. Not necessarily from deep, it can be a big guy who has great touch inside too.

Yeah, agreed
I mean that the physical traits needed to shoot well are genetic, rather than a general “hey he shoots good, I bet his kid will come out of the womb able to make threes”

So I just realized what time Gonzaga plays tomorrow.
Looks like I’ll be heading to bed no later than ten tonight.
Just stopped by.
Totally agree with you, for what it’s worth.
It was pretty bad the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.
Every touchy thing was called a foul on BYU. Then the clear fouls when BYU went to the basket were not called. It was getting ridiculous. It allowed KSU to play more physical and it showed when a lot of non-shooting fouls were called the last 10 minutes of the game against them.
BYU still lost the game, though. They played much better defense when playing man-to-man. Instead, they played zone defense for 30 minutes of the game. And the rebounding was atrocious. There were too many instances where 3 BYU players were around the ball and 1 KSU player would just jump between them and take the ball away. It was a poor showing by BYU.
When a team matchs up against an opponent who is
clearly superior athletic, and mostly a driving/rebounding team, there are going to be a lot of touch fouls.
Maybe the reffing was bad, but if the foul situation took the coach by surprise then….he’s dumb.
TouchMyIchiro
This year's tournament has been amazing
Lots of teams making big plays, and only a few Scottie-Reynoldsing their ways to an early exit.
I don't understand what all the fuss about Jimmer Fredette is.
I mean, he has nice moves, granted. But he’s a shoot first point guard. If he was 6’5" SG he’d be real nice, but as it is, he isn’t that good. He shoots crazy shots when he would be much better off passing. I wouldn’t want to play with him.
I think a lot of it has to do with his name, which is actually really cool. And his brothers rap song. And probably some of it has to do with the fact that he’s white too.
TouchMyIchiro
Absolutely.
Jimmer should not be the point guard. His ball dribbling skills are terrible. He has a nice jump shot, but he can’t control the game as the lead player.
I only saw the tournament games,
could Lloyd be a pg? I didn’t see that much of him cause I wasn’t only watching the BYU games, but he is nasty quick. I bet Jimmer would put up better stats too if he didn’t have to initiate the offense as well.
