Yes, and our office typically has the game on..and most everyone is watching on their computers.

So if a game is close at the end we all congregate by the front desk to watch on the flatscreen. I love the first day of the tournament!

I fucking hate you Mariners

Leaving early today and have tomorrow off

should be perfect.

This time tomorrow, I’m going to be at one of the better beer bars in SD, watching 20 flatscreens all around me and drinking assorted delicacies from New Belgium and Russian River

Good call!

Wow this is annoying.

On MMOD you can’t change games when the one you are watching goes to commercial. So you have to watch the commercials. This is going to get really obnoxious once games get into the closing seconds.

TouchMyIchiro

by brayden04 on Mar 18, 2010 12:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Good

in general, the smaller college teams tend to be more experienced and play better team offense/defense because players don’t defect early to Europe, the NBA or because they have 0.6 GPAs.

When you can do that with big-school caliber athletes, it’s a very good recipe for sustained success (though rarely at an elite level)

Console suggestion?

I’m debating between PS3 / Wii / 360. I’m exclusively a sports gamer — most likely NCAA Football, NBA, and MLB. I don’t play much online, though that could change I guess. I’d probably use it to watch Blu-Rays if I got the PS3 and I’d use it to stream Netflix in either the 360 or PS3 scenario.

I know the basic arguments for an against all three, but I’m open to your guys’ input.

by andrewgolfsalot on Mar 18, 2010 1:14 PM PDT up reply actions

360

having the online option is great, and streaming Netflix is a godsend. Also, quite simply, it’s cheaper than the PS3.

In what respects is it cheaper?

by andrewgolfsalot on Mar 18, 2010 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

It's worth noting that you have to be a Gold member to use Netflix on the 360.

If you’re into online gaming, it’s no big deal because Xbox Live is a great service, but if you’re not a fan, paying for Gold just to get Netflix is kind of a bitch.

by InSpokane on Mar 18, 2010 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions

Unless you have any interest in the PS3 library exclusives, a 360.

Multiplatform games for the most part seem to perform better on the 360 because designers are more familiar with the API Microsoft uses.

Live is a better online service (even though there’s a $30-50 yearly fee depending on wher eyou look) than PSN.

Heck, the controller feels more comfortable as well.

Yes, but I'm saying they already had two

and can’t have had any more than two in this situation because they still only had one offensive rebound when I made the initial reply to John

by seattlebruin on Mar 18, 2010 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions

True,

but if they hold on, St. Mary’s plays Villanova who looked really bad today, and if they beat them, odds are they play Baylor who didn’t look too good either.

A game doesn’t have to be close for him to announce it like it is close.

Wofford Terriers!

Not that I picked them, I just like Terriers!

Only 3 people left with perfect brackets on ESPN.com.

I don’t see all three making it passed RD1 unscathed. Two picked Houston over Maryland and the other picked Vermont over Syracuse.

by Wilder. on Mar 19, 2010 2:12 PM PDT reply actions

Nope.

And nobody has a perfect bracket anymore. This has been a brutal tourney with upsets. I wasn’t expecting too many, and— surprise!— there have been an abnormal amount.

Ohio jobbed the most brackets. I can’t believe there were people who still had perfect brackets going after that.

by Wilder. on Mar 19, 2010 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions

I learned yesterday that being ahead by 10+ points doesn't mean anything...

And I don’t want to jinx my Zags, but golly they’re doing well.

by katal on Mar 19, 2010 4:36 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, the key is to get as many teams into the Elite 8.

Big points start accumulating there. And you basically have to predict the championship game and winner to take your group.

by Wilder. on Mar 19, 2010 4:45 PM PDT up reply actions

And when it comes to the Zags. They can Coug it.

See the heartbreak of the 2006 Gonzaga Vs. UCLA Regional Semi-Final.

It seems like every couple years, UW and Gonzaga put together teams that are great but not elite.

I look forward to the year where one of the two teams finally breaks into the elite eight or final four.

by katal on Mar 20, 2010 3:26 PM PDT reply actions

I dunno....

Hand-eye coordination is probably genetic to some point, right? In my experience I think you can definitely learn to shoot better, but there are some people who are just born shooters. Not necessarily from deep, it can be a big guy who has great touch inside too.

TouchMyIchiro

by brayden04 on Mar 20, 2010 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, agreed

I mean that the physical traits needed to shoot well are genetic, rather than a general “hey he shoots good, I bet his kid will come out of the womb able to make threes”

by seattlebruin on Mar 20, 2010 3:56 PM PDT up reply actions

WHY DO YOU LIKE THAT SHOT??

THAT WAS A 29 FOOT THREE WITH TWO SECONDS ON THE SHOT CLOCK, THAT WAS THE WORST SHOT EVER

by seattlebruin on Mar 20, 2010 3:55 PM PDT reply actions

Eh. Heat check.

Plus he didn’t have much room to get closer to the hoop, then he wouldn’t have as clear a look.

TouchMyIchiro

by brayden04 on Mar 20, 2010 4:04 PM PDT up reply actions

It was just a horrible possession

given that he got the ball with two seconds on the clock, sure, fire it up, but that still doesn’t excuse the awful execution on offense from that possession

by seattlebruin on Mar 20, 2010 4:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh yeah.

I think loving the shot is a little overstatement, because it’s not like that’s what the Huskies wanted. But in the circumstances, it’s not terrible.

TouchMyIchiro

by brayden04 on Mar 20, 2010 4:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Did UW run out of timeouts?

Why not immediately call a timeout after the basket there?

by Wilder. on Mar 20, 2010 3:57 PM PDT reply actions

Not worth it, it's a two-second possession

and timeouts are for the whole game, not per half

by seattlebruin on Mar 20, 2010 3:59 PM PDT up reply actions

Why is that not an over-and-back violation on Northern Iowa?

The NI guy knocked the rebound back out and it didn’t appear a KU player touched it at all.

Well yeah.

Two observations about Northern Iowa

1) Oh my God those uniforms are terrible. And I LIKE purple.

2) Most of the players on their team appear to be in their early 40s.

TouchMyIchiro

by brayden04 on Mar 20, 2010 4:07 PM PDT reply actions

OK, that was horrible on two levels

the UNI guy touched it last, but Aldrich went over his back to get it, and the ref gives it to UNI anyway

by seattlebruin on Mar 20, 2010 4:31 PM PDT reply actions

That's pretty common though.

I like it. No reason to give unnecessary fouls. No advantage was gained, give the ball to UNI and it’s equal.

by Wilder. on Mar 20, 2010 7:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I dunno,

I watched the game and I didn’t think the reffing was that bad.

TouchMyIchiro

by brayden04 on Mar 21, 2010 2:05 AM PDT up reply actions

It was pretty bad the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half.

Every touchy thing was called a foul on BYU. Then the clear fouls when BYU went to the basket were not called. It was getting ridiculous. It allowed KSU to play more physical and it showed when a lot of non-shooting fouls were called the last 10 minutes of the game against them.

BYU still lost the game, though. They played much better defense when playing man-to-man. Instead, they played zone defense for 30 minutes of the game. And the rebounding was atrocious. There were too many instances where 3 BYU players were around the ball and 1 KSU player would just jump between them and take the ball away. It was a poor showing by BYU.

by Wilder. on Mar 21, 2010 10:46 AM PDT up reply actions

When a team matchs up against an opponent who is

clearly superior athletic, and mostly a driving/rebounding team, there are going to be a lot of touch fouls.

Maybe the reffing was bad, but if the foul situation took the coach by surprise then….he’s dumb.

I don't understand what all the fuss about Jimmer Fredette is.

I mean, he has nice moves, granted. But he’s a shoot first point guard. If he was 6’5" SG he’d be real nice, but as it is, he isn’t that good. He shoots crazy shots when he would be much better off passing. I wouldn’t want to play with him.

I think a lot of it has to do with his name, which is actually really cool. And his brothers rap song. And probably some of it has to do with the fact that he’s white too.

TouchMyIchiro

by brayden04 on Mar 21, 2010 2:08 AM PDT reply actions

Absolutely.

Jimmer should not be the point guard. His ball dribbling skills are terrible. He has a nice jump shot, but he can’t control the game as the lead player.

by Wilder. on Mar 21, 2010 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions

I only saw the tournament games,

could Lloyd be a pg? I didn’t see that much of him cause I wasn’t only watching the BYU games, but he is nasty quick. I bet Jimmer would put up better stats too if he didn’t have to initiate the offense as well.

I don't think it's been announced yet.

That said, yeah – between work and the Sounders game, there’s a very small window for when it is acceptable for UW to play their game.
