Mauer gets a 10-year deal?
WCCO in Minnesota says so, Buster Olney and his sources say no.

Wow was the only word I could come up with...
Well, that and a “Whaaaaaaaaat?”
This must be the longest catcher contract ever by at least 3 years.

This has no chance of ending poorly.

When thinking it about it a bit more, this is just about the only way it could go for Mauer
He is Minnesota through and through – I couldn’t imagine the backlash in the city if he were to leave the Twins
While Yankee and Red Sox fans start whining ...
… "It’s not fair. He’s supposed to play for our team. Mommy, make the bad man stop taking away our toys."

They're already busy doing this with Bryce Harper.

Mauer probably continues at catcher for at most three years, then moves to another position.
Agile catchers who can hit seem to end up at third base. Third might be a good option long term for Mauer.

Or he could try the Biggio route
Although I think he is a bit too big to play middle infield and center

Dammit from the title I thought we signed him and just about crapped my pants.

Huh?
Did you think like Minnesota traded him and than we signed him longterm like Halladay and the Phillies? Because that would be crazy.
Yeah I know right because GMZ hasn't done anything completely off the charts since he's been here.

Deal:
Cards Get: Twins Get: M’s Get:
Cash ($25) Lopez Pujols
Snell One Cup of Seattle’s Best Coffee Mauer
Right now I'm dreaming of Carl Crawford. Maybe next year...(or this year at the trade deadline)...
Darn it, that came out bad...
Cards Get:
Cash ($25)
Ian Snell
Twins Get:

Why Not?
Are we paying to much? Or can you not take a joke?

No chance, M's spent their $200 billion on Cliff Lee, remember?

Seems awfully unlikely
Only way I can see this being true is if it’s a six year deal with a bunch of team options.

If I was Mauer
I’d ask for naming rights too. “Well, it’s a beautiful day for baseball here at Joe Mauer Target Field…”
