Holy Cow We're Getting Roberto Clemente!!
I was looking at a rundown of the players we might pick up in the Rule 5 draft and it made me think, "Does anyone ever get value in the Rule 5 draft?"
Ok, so it turns out, yeah, they do. Wikipedia lists all the players taken in the Rule 5 draft and at the top of the list is Roberto Holyfriggin Clemente. Of course that was the oooold Rule 5 draft which involved everyone's first year draftees and which changed in 1965 with the creation of the current system.
But there are names in the list of players taken in the modern Rule 5 draft that are also impressive, such as Josh Hamilton. Check it out: here.
So maybe paying attention to the Rule 5 draft isn't automatically a waste of my time, after all.

Here's a really good article on tomorrow's Rule 5 Draft
FWIW Conor Glassey doesn't like his defense.
I remember thinking it was passable at third when I saw him, but Glassey would be working off a far larger sample of information than I have. He likes Mangini more, and while I like Mangini far more than most people, that’s still not saying a lot for Emaus.
Appreciate the linkage, by the by…
Where are you getting your minor league groundball rates?
Or should you not reveal that lest the MiLB’s Furies hunt down that website’s creators like they hunted down Minor League Splits?
At first I was astonished and outraged by how early the rule 5 was going to be this morning.
Then I remembered A) Timezones exist. B) Old men go to bed at 6:30 pm anyway.

It would be more likely if we drafted the player from the Brewers
IIRC, Branch Rickey had just become the GM of the Pirates after years of working for the Dodgers. He then used the rule five draft to promptly raid his old team of talent in a “I know something you don’t know” manner. Maybe Jack has his eyes on a Brewer prospect that he is waiting to become draft eligible
