Rangers Finally Land A Pitcher
It appears that the Rangers, as expected, have come to an agreement with Brandon Webb. This is only being reported by Ed Price at the moment and terms are unknown at this point but since Webb has thrown a total of four innings in the last two seasons, he probably is not getting much guaranteed.
Before the shoulder injuries, Webb was a dynamite pitcher and being such a ground ball heavy guy is a great fit for the Rangers ballpark. What to expect from Webb is totally up in the air until we hear more about his health and see how his velocity and endurance looks in Spring Training. This isn't great news for Seattle though because Webb almost certainly represents little risk for Texas and his potential reward, however unlikely in 2011, is high.
Then again, if you want one single example of how bad the Bill James projections are, go look at Webb's.

The D'Backs already picked up Mike Hampton, so they're covered.

Bill James has Webb throwing more innings than the other three combined next year.
Should the rest of the West bother to play the games this year?
Makes me think the Rangers might still be in the hunt for Beltre if this is their biggest pitching splash.
Ben Sheets didn't throw a single inning in 2009
and got what – $10 mil guaranteed last year? If Webb threw 4 innings, he must be worth $40 million. Here’s hoping Daniels agrees…
gah
looks like just a $3m base. Seems like a decent pickup for the Rangers.

On the plus side,
Apparently his fastball lost several MPH of velocity, even after the long rehab.

The instructionals were in November, is that right?
He’s still got time to strengthen his arm further. While I’d be surprised if he regained all of his velocity, he may be throwing harder than that by the time the season starts.

Oh, I'm sure he'll be back to 6 WAR form
He is pitching for a division rival after all.
But hey, something not awful about Texas making a move I don’t disapprove of!
