Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

LL Podcast

Jeff and I found time to record a quick podcast in between talking about my recent vacation and his upcoming vacation. That was way more interesting than the Mariners so it took up most of our time. And then we cut it out so that you only get to listen to the Mariners stuff. You're welcome.

HOOOOOOOOOOORAY PODCAST!

I love the podcasts… Thanks, guys.

I get a little bit of audio-ugliness for the first 3 minutes. Is it my cruddy connection or the actual audio track?

Jack Cust

Jack Cust worries me as a hitter for this team just because his spray chart doesn’t look great for Safeco. Now, maybe he is going to try to pull the ball a little more in Safeco, because those formerly opposite-center field home runs he hit in Oakland are now going to be long fly ball outs.

But we only have him for 1 year, and it is a year that doesn’t matter, so whatever.

Personally, I would just like to see him fight Chone Figgins. I think that every year we need to have a new-DH versus Chone Figgins fight.

"... both to refine some stuff, and, you know, service time!"

Awesome to hear the “because, (noun)!” joke made aloud. One of my favorites on this site.

If I recall correctly

Felix gets a large raise next season. I know we have a lot coming off next year, but that’ll definitely eat into it.

Yup

According to Cot’s Baseball Contracts, Felix’s paycheck goes from 10 million in 2011 to 18.5 million in 2012. That’s going to take up half the spending money from the Bradley and Jack Wilson salary relief (~17 million). And that’s before we factor in arbitration raises to guys like League, Vargas, Fister and Ryan.

Small edit

Felix gets a pay bump for the Cy Young, so it’s 11 million in 2011 and 19 million in 2012.
