Yesterday, the people at Fox Sports decided to ask five of their experts where they figured some of the top free agent names would end up. These things, of course, don't mean very much, especially given the fact that answers were given and posted online before the free agent market had even opened, but it's still interesting to see what Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi have to say, seeing as how they're both insiders who thrive on this sort of stuff.
Of the ten free agents asked about, Rosenthal thinks the M's wind up with two - Vladimir Guerrero and one Adrian Beltre. This is most notable for its insinuation that the M's will have money to spend, which they probably won't - at least not to a great degree. Additionally, why on earth would Beltre ever want to come back? It's a fun thought, but it doesn't seem to me to be a very realistic one, and this doesn't even touch on the fact that Vladimir Guerrero is 97 years old.
Jon Morosi, meanwhile, thinks the M's wind up with Victor Martinez, and let him shuffle around catcher, first base, and DH. Martinez is a switch-hitting catcher, which is good, but he's also going to be 32 and absolutely blows behind the plate. With reports that he could seek and get big money, I just don't see this as being a very Mariner-like move.
So in retrospect that wasn't really very interesting at all.
