Rule 5 consideration
Lance Pendleton. Yankees. Here's a good write-up of a couple of prospects from River Ave. Blues that they considered worthy of consideration of adding to the Yankee's 40-man. Of the four, the Yankees added only one, Ryan Pope.
Pendleton spent most of last year in AA tasting AAA for the first time. He seems to have acquitted himself pretty well. I like his scouting profile. For the lazy, here's the summation:
Starter, 27, low-90's fastball, curve, change, from Rice so of course he had Tommy John surgery.
Also of note, this Rice website would have us believe that back in 2005 Lance considered his favorite music artists to be MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice. 2005. Either he's crazy or has balls the size of the peaches he so dearly loves from the Rice servery. EIther way tells me that he could stare down Lance Berkman and throw a low-90's fastball with the expectation that he'd strike him out. Go get 'em, Z. He's waiting.

He has pitched pretty well at every level, but there are some problems.
For one, he is really old for his levels. Putting up a 3.5 FIP against AA competition at age 26/27 just isn’t mind blowing. Also consider that he’s facing much young competition and isn’t exceptional at missing bats. He’s 27, he pitches to a reasonable amount of contact and is sort of middling at getting ground balls. Also, he’d require the last spot on the 40 man. Between Fister, French, Petit, and the rest., the team probably has enough low-ceiling back end guys.
Not to mention that, if you're looking for a pitcher to take, there are much more intriguing options.
Some even with potential, like Wynn Pelzer or Kasey Kiker.
Just what we need.
Another anti-semite.

At least we'd be certain he's not on the Jews.

Shlomo Steroidstein was a bad sign.

To he credit he did shoot up through the minors.
It’s just unfortunate he took those Kevin Youkilis comps the wrong way.

Age relative to league
doesn’t matter anywhere near as much for pitchers as for hitters. If he’s got major league stuff, it doesn’t matter if he’s older than the AA competition he’s facing. George Sherrill was an excellent relief prospect as a 28-year-old.
This has nothing to do with Pendleton, whose stuff I’m not at all familiar with.
Yeah, like I said...
no idea if I agree with that or not. I don’t know anything about Pendleton. Just that you shouldn’t use his age to disqualify him if everything else is up to snuff.
