11/11 We Need Some Happy News Offtop

After yesterday, we need happy news, good news, or anything not related to what happened yesterday. Whaddaya got?

I have The Best Show On WFMU. I've been listening to FMU for years now, but I never dove in to the Best Show - and now all I'm doing is going through the archives and listening to all the shows. If you've never heard it, it's basically a music show, and in between songs, Tom Scharpling takes calls. But not just any calls - he's invented an entire world centered around the fictional town of Newbridge, New Jersey, and the callers are all residents, business owners, or other denizens of Greater Newbridge. The thing is, they're all losers, idiots, morons, or all of the above. Think an entire town of Gob Bluth types. And most of them are voiced by Jon Wurster, from Superchunk, which is extra awesome.

He also gets "legitimate" calls, from comedians like Paul Scheer, Patton Oswalt, and Paul F. Tompkins, and a lot of musical guests too. It's a hysterically funny show, and well worth checking out.

If you're an iTunes user, search the iTunes store for "Best Show Gems" - this is an every-other-week excerpt of some of the funniest stuff on the show from years past, and is a great way to start. Otherwise, just go here to check out Best Show Gems. A few that you should listen to to get started:

The Return of Barry Dworkin
Tom's High School Classmate Has Found Freedom
Power Pop Pop-Pop
A Call From A Smirnoff Ice Regional Sales Director

After you listen to those, go here and listen to entire shows. It's well worth it.

So that's what I've got that isn't depressing and sad. What about you? What has made you smile this week?
