BasebaLL Mogul Online 3.0!

Alright people it's that time again! Figured that with season ending we could use a nice distraction from the boringness of the offseason and what better way to do that then starting back up our BMO leagues. The rules are pretty straight forward but if you have any questions feel free to ask in the threads!

Minor Points

  • I don't really feel like having to deal with being a commissioner so if somebody else wants to do it then that would be just great.
  • Old users should be able to reclaim their old teams first, then returning users who wish to claim new teams get priority and then finally new users will be able to pick from the remaining scraps.
  • The Rays are impossible to win with so don't pick them.
  • We should probably get a separate forum going again.
  • Yes this is horribly addicting. No you don't need to be able to spend hours a day in front of a computer to be good at it. I've built dynasties by micromanaging every little detail and I've built a dynasty while backpacking across Scandinavia with 15 minutes of internet access every 5 days.
  • A season generally takes 7 days real time. The first season we will take it slow for the new players then crank it up to speed when people get the hang of it.
  • There are a few know players from the last run through that create super glitchy stat lines that we will need to cut through.
  • Seriously don't pick the Rays no matter how amazing you think that you or Evan Longoria are.
  • Fake Baseball!
  • It's Free!

I'd like to claim a team.

Can I get some more details? Is it a 30-team league, or just AL? Do you manage waivers (and by extension the 40-man), your minor league systems, and ticket sales? Ultimately, how does the experience compare to OOTP?

Also, can I have the Rays?

All 30 teams. You do have a minor league system, but not really a 40 man roster.

Players can be moved up and down freely. Ticket pricing is a big part of the game as you cannot resign players if you have no money. Never played OOTP, so cannot answer that.

by Sec 108 on Oct 4, 2010 10:10 AM PDT up reply actions

OK.

Is the player universe all current MLB and MiLB players? Also, I did not really want the Rays. If I have a choice, I’d prefer the Cardinals.

It does start out using real players all the way through your system.

Then after season one ends it begins generating fake players for the draft.

I think it uses 2009's Opening Day rosters.

Also Fuzz had the Cards previously and wants to keep control of them.

Useless Bullshit?

You mean like the giant injury bug in OOTP 11 that gives Franklin Gutierrez a career-ending injury in 2012? And every one of your players a month-long injury? You almost have to be in commissioner mode in order to dumb down injuries.

I would like to go with an AL team this time around if possible.

I do not know what team I want because I am still confused as to what the hell this is. But I love participation.

For those who are new, you can set how much you spend on your farm system,

scouting and medical staff. Last time we set a cap at 20 million for any of those expenses. If you go over the commissioner will reduce it for you.

I can't really think of anybody to cut, so I may just roll with things as they are.

So how loose can we play these rules?

Because I can see someone signing every great player possible for one year/infinity and taking the $$$ reset after year one and going full rebuild with the enhanced cash from postseason/jump in tickets.

I dunno, I'm the rookie here.

I just saw the hole that would give me a leg up on rebuilding, and wondered if it was unethical in the scope of the league.

Honestly, I’d say the 20/20/20 is the bigger question.

by Faux on Oct 4, 2010 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

It's already done. Otherwise people like you would go out and sign guys then resign them for less.

If you want to sign a guy to a one year deal then you can but he must become a free agent at the end of the season, otherwise you lose him and some money.

by Kirk on Oct 4, 2010 9:29 PM PDT up reply actions

Kirk has said he'll reset everyone's cash to $1M after the first season

so you have no real incentive to not just run up a huge deficit in your first year because you’ll be bailed out

by seattlebruin on Oct 4, 2010 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

I did that so that players with teams like the Yankees where the budget does not reflect real life budget so you're totally screwed after the first year. There are more teams like this too.

Some people, no matter how hard you try, are going to end up in the negative after the first year. I just proposed a new rule on the forum so go check it out there. It should combat this a little bit.

Few more questions.

If a player is a 77 will that change season to season or do people stay at the same rating?

Also can a players projected ceiling (like 75++ or whatever with an 89 ceiling) ever change? Or does a prospect stay the same once they are on the team

by cedarA on Oct 6, 2010 7:15 PM PDT reply actions

It depends on your scouting.

Your scouting gets better as you go along if you have money invested in it. One of my players went from 78+ to 68+ to 77 in 6 days.

by Mariner John on Oct 6, 2010 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Wait, so, if, for example, I had really good scouting and somebody else had horrible scouting

And I were looking at Joe Catcher 66/99 on their roster, they could potentially think that Joe Catcher was a 50/60?

I guess the question is do the valuations vary from team to team? If there were differences in our scouting budgets, for example, could I go look up Atlanta Braves and see Jeff Francoeur as a different value than you do?
