Baseball Manager Online Again

This post is to gauge everyone's interest in running another BMO league seperate from whichever leagues are running right now.  I'm willing to be commisioner for a new one.  I'd like each team to be human run since the computer can be a dick about a lot of things.

Let me know below if you're interested and what team you want to control.  And can we try to give those people who aren't currently in a league preference?  I know there were quite a few who wanted in on the last one and missed out.

For those who want in, the league is called... wait for it...

Lookout Landing League 4!

Password is edgar. The league won’t start until there are 30 owners. If we can’t fill it up, it won’t take off.

I'll lay claim to a team.

I’ve ran Baltimore and San Diego before so I think I’d like to try out the Marlins. I think they are due for another World Series victory.

New stats make it interesting in OOTP 11.

You can find it for free on some website. Updates should kinda work. The draft is bugged. Still a lot of 100+ mph pitchers with high stamina and the game automatically puts them as a reliever. I dont like that pitchers cant learn pitches; if there was a spring training thing where you can teach pitchers a new pitch it would be better.

If there's still room here, I'm in

I’d like to be San Diego if I can. If that’s spoken for, here’s my choices (in order of preference)

Washington
San Francisco
New York Mets
Tampa Bay
Arizona

Plenty of teams left.

We still need 20+ teams filled.

I was actually thinking of starting my own league, because one just isn't enough!

I’m in the other league as the Pirates. I just signed up for this one as the Red Sox… I’d like to see how this game works with a bigger budget, haha. Feel free to kick me out if there are more people that want to join this one that didn’t get in to the last league.

Also, are you going to set up a message board on Lefora or something for this one?

by nemo1 on Oct 31, 2010 10:44 PM PDT reply actions

Oh really?

FIRST PLACE IN THE DIVISION, DUDE. I’m going to the playoffs this season!

Although I don’t think anyone on my roster was part of the original starting lineup I inherited. Just developed the young guys, got some good draft picks the first couple years.

I think I will be boned after this season though, unless I get a ton of money from the playoffs. Half of my team is asking for $5M raises, and I have a total payroll budget somewhere around $30M… haha

by nemo1 on Nov 4, 2010 10:53 PM PDT up reply actions

There are still 21 spots open.

For those of you in LLL3 that would like another team (perhaps you are in the NL in 3 and want an AL team, or maybe you want to try a bigger payroll), feel free to join up.

I've never done it before so I might suck at this

But I want in!

Is there a place where I can see what teams are available still?

I am going to come into your house at night and rec up the place.

Forget that last part, I see the link.

I’m just dumb, I guess.

This sounds fun

I will take the Braves. I have too many Casey Kotchmans on my team!

by Luposlipaphobia on Nov 2, 2010 6:21 PM PDT reply actions

Holy Bejeezus

I’m paying 9 mil to Aaron Harang, 10 mil to Francisco Cordero, and 7 mil to Bronson Arroyo?

I got my work cut out for me.

I am going to come into your house at night and rec up the place.

by HititHere on Nov 3, 2010 1:33 PM PDT reply actions

That's more than my entire team in the other league is making.

However, in this league, I have about 5 times the budget of my other team, so this should be fun.

by nemo1 on Nov 3, 2010 2:23 PM PDT reply actions

What's the budget, 80 mil?

That’s pretty sizable. Should make this a fun league. Also, it increases the risk of overpaid busts. Woohoo!

I am going to come into your house at night and rec up the place.

by HititHere on Nov 3, 2010 4:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh wait. 55.1 million? I'm so confused, I need to read up on the rules.

Either way, a salary dump is coming for the Reds. 83 mil is just not going to be OK.

I am going to come into your house at night and rec up the place.

I signed up and I intend to play but I can't find the league within the site,

and when I click the link it just tells me I do not have permission to view that league. Can anyone direct me? I started to play last year around this time but I just didn’t have the time and I’d like to play full time this year.

by Zwakamatsu on Nov 3, 2010 5:09 PM PDT reply actions

I joined up as the White Sox.

I’ll do my best to be active, but I’m in a different time zone (Tokyo) so I can’t guarantee it. If people have too much trouble with that I’ll quit.

Do you all want to try to run this as is?

I can nerf the computer teams as the season goes. Some leagues remove all the comp’s spending money because the computer tends to be a dick about free agents and such.

by JLProck on Nov 4, 2010 5:27 PM PDT reply actions

Alright.

We’re going to start this thing up. If you’ve joined, I’d suggest you go over to the forum and start voting and bidding on free agents. You can also request to drop an albatross, if you’d like.

I'll kick this off on Monday morning.

Get your free agency bids in. Bidding is over at 1000 PST, Monday.

Goddamnit.

Pujols and Wainwright both injured. Bruised spleen? What?

Your ranking is relative to what everyone is spending.

You can be near the top in all three categories, so you could realistically have some variant of an A ranking in each category. I will double check the spending habits of each team, though.

by JLProck on Nov 8, 2010 8:13 PM PST up reply actions

Is there any key to pitching?

I even adjusted all my strategies to “normal” instead of tweaking them, but my starters’ ERAs are all right around 6.00, which is ridiculous… even for guys ranked in the 80s and 90s. Am I missing something, or just getting unlucky?

My relievers are even more inconsistent. K-Rod, at 89, has a 7.04 ERA while Arthur Rhodes is an 88 with a 1.17 ERA.

I am going to come into your house at night and rec up the place.

by HititHere on Nov 9, 2010 1:22 PM PST reply actions

I just doublechecked, and have no relievers in the rotation.

And my lowest-rated defender has a -9% on his range, most players have positive range. A couple stinkers on fielding percentage, but mostly good.

I just don’t get it. Everyone’s ERA is in the 5-6 range or higher, and I’m through the middle of June.

Terribly frustrating.

Oh, I see! I'm a little below average, at .683.

I should find a way to pick that up a bit.

The stat sorter is really cool, I didn't notice you could sort by all these different things earlier.

I’m 25-17 at home and 7-23 away. No wonder I suck.

This is so addicting.

Anyone else have a player jump 8 points and 16 in potential just for having him get a couple at bats off the bench?

I added Jesus Merchan to my bench because I felt sorry for him (I know, felt sorry for a virtual simulation player); and he suddenly got good?

by w00tah on Nov 10, 2010 1:36 PM PST reply actions

I've noticed the (peak) numbers on my guys can change drastically

I saw Cueto’s peak drop by like 7 points after he was in my rotation for a month. Haven’t seen the instant jump in current rating like you did though.

In the other league, I had a guy do something similar.

I’m playing as the Pirates over there, and I stuck Shelby Ford in the leadoff spot playing 2B, straight from the minors. In the minors, he projected as something like a 74(79), I believe. As soon as I put him in the majors, he jumped up to a 80(88), and hung around in between those numbers for the next couple years. Then I benched him and he fell to a 73(75) type player. I guess some players respond well to opportunities.

It should be mentioned that, while his ratings changed a lot (I had pretty good scouting, too), his stats were pretty mediocre. He won a Gold Glove, but always had a terrible fielding percentage, and he normally had an OBP under .300. I was just using him as a placeholder until my good prospects hit the majors.

Would anyone like to take my spot in the original league?

I won’t be able to commit much time in the next month or so, and would like someone to take it off my hands. You’re not inheriting crap either. As the Rockies, I won 104 games last year (though didn’t make the playoffs — what the hell?) and have a very strong position player core but with limited pitching.

M's fan in PA, soon to be LA

Where is Mtolson/Siroz

League has like 5 open teams atm, anyone want in?

by cedarA on Nov 11, 2010 1:01 PM PST reply actions

John Bowker just hit .412 over 534 at bats!

He had 220 hits and 312 strikeouts, good for a BABIP of .990.
