I've decided that every team has characteristics I like and characteristics I find annoying, so I'm going to root for whoever the hell I want, and the Rangers have a minor league named Andrew Laughter, which is good enough for me.

I love this photo of Cliff Lee

It looks like someone has just said to him

“Cliff, do you realise that you still have a Mariners hat on?”

And this look is his reply

Wow.

You're dead to me.

Fuck.

Heads-up play from Andrus.

I thought they already did.

I haven’t really heard anything about him in the past 4 years or so…
Am I just lucky?

He pops up every now and then and it's always hilarious.

The best was his National Guard theme song that used to play before movie previews a couple years ago. Holy shit.

How can something be deemed "ear candy, and also described as having "no substance."

Well that was some kind of throw.

A bad one.

I was just gonna call Cruz a retard

But he decided to turn that into a homer himself

Boooo Texas but still love you, Cliff.

Great stat from Dan Schulman; “7 times in the history of baseball a pitcher has gone more than 7 innings, struck out at least 10, and walked no one in a playoff game. Cliff 3 has 3 of those 7.”

And even I think both of those calls looked bad…

If Price had his foot on the bag Kinsler was out.

Can’t tell if it was or not from that angle though.

Me neither

Vladdy definitely could’ve been safe, though. Hard to tell.

Hmmm... that made me curious about what he was up to...

So I wiki’d and got this.

On March 9, 2010, he was named manager of the Victoria Seals of the Golden Baseball League. On May 27, 2010, the Seals announced Boone was leaving the team permanently to deal with “family matters”.

He makes me sad.

Doesn’t seem to be enjoying his post baseball life much, like he’s lost. The picture of him sobbing at his locker is burned in my brain. :(

by wazzu93 on Oct 12, 2010 7:49 PM PDT up reply actions

That was really hard to watch, as bad as he was playing.

And then there were the issues of the following years, like him calling into the local radio shows obviously drunk. He got straightened out, from what I remember reading a while back, but he went from the top of the world to unemployed in pretty short order there/ I can’t say that there’s anyone I can think of that would have handled something like that well.

C'mon get a fucking clue you stupid Rays!!

Rangers and Yankees in the ALCS would be terrible since I hate both teams. Yankees are Yankees and I don’t like the Rangers’ lax attitude toward cocaine.

I hate these two teams so much I would even prefer the Red Sox over them.

by NeighborTom2 on Oct 12, 2010 7:45 PM PDT reply actions

Agreed...

It’s a good thing he wasn’t a baseball fan in the late 70’s and early 80’s… he would have to hate every team!

My rooting interest shift to good baseball in the NL for the rest of the week.

It’s really hard for me to decide whether I want the Rangers to take longer to get the WS or if I want to see the Yankees out of it so I don’t have to deal with that bullshit everywhere I go for the next few weeks. I’m tempted to go with the Yankees just to see them get steamrolled by the Phillies.

Well, that about does it.

Good job Tampa Bay, you allowed the Rangers to win a playoff series.

I didn’t dislike you really before, but this, combined with your embarrassing fan support, makes you a joke.

Cliff Lee helps the Rangers make history.

We need to find more playoff pieces to sell the Rangers so we can raid their farm system.

We have’em right where we want’em.

by ThundaPC on Oct 12, 2010 8:10 PM PDT reply actions

If I'm being realistic about it....

I see another Yankees-Phillies series in which the Yankees get mercilessly outpitched. That’s kind of what I’m hoping for at this point. I don’t want the Rangers in, and I have a hard time seeing the Giants pull ahead of the Phillies even though I would like them to.

Halladay is awesome.

Still love Moyer (who won’t play), and would love to see Sweeney get a title if he actually contributes something.

On the Rangers, I love Cliff Lee, and Elvis Andrus is fucking awesome.

On the Yankees…err…Mariano Rivera is still pretty cool, I guess.

But damn, Cliff is fun to watch. Easy choice to root for the Rangers vs the Yankees. Anyone over the Yankees. Anyone.

At this point, I'm on the "anyone but NY" bandwagon.

If Texas makes it to the World Series, I’ll root for the National League, but I just can’t prefer NY making it to the Series for ~8th time in my lifetime. If the Mariner’s don’t win the World Series, I don’t want anyone to. But since that won’t happen, let some fanbase like SF get put out of their misery.
