Some Randy Johnson Pictures From 1995 and Safeco in '09
The retirement's a decent opportunity to acknowledge his achievements with a little gallery of his exploits. Here's four from some old copies of the Seattle Times, of Randy in the playoffs in '95:
And these of him warming up and early in his last start in Seattle, on May 22 of last year:

I was there too, and it was a blast.
The ovation Randy got was a wonderful thing.

I was there, too, an amazing experience indeed.
I’m sad that we won’t get another chance to see him pitch in person.
Hey everyone, Follow me on Twitter!, check out My Baseball Blog, and Last.fm me!
I'm building a web site for a former TNT photojournalist...
The photos in the sports gallery he has of the M’s of this era are pretty effing cool. I’d share them, but the site’s not ready yet, and I don’t think he’d like me linking to a copy of his photos on my web site where I’m drafting his site. To think that I now own the lens he used to take them with is kinda cool – especially since I’m carrying forward the tradition of shooting Tacoma Rainiers games with it…
I’m missing a bunch of my old photos that I baaaaadly want right now. I’d do anything to have the photos I took from the 19 strikeout game in my hands right now…
SHOW FiFi THE MONEY!!!!
Yeah
Damn them for banding together and getting great medical coverage for their families. Bastards.

Ok, I should probably elaborate a bit more,
in order to help make LL more accessible to a new reader.
Matthew was being sarcastic. One thing the mods on this site are known for (besides their excellent analysis), is their snark and lack of Politcal Correctness. It may have not been the most appropriate joke, considering this website tries to curb any political discussion from happening here (go join a politics blog if you want to talk politics, they will say). But one thing you will learn on here is that most discussion should not be taken personally, and non baseball discussion usually shouldn’t be taken seriously.

My mistake.
I was more or less trying to ride the joke out to the extreme, but I shouldn’t have, especially considering all of the QC lately. I understood that Matthew wasn’t likely serious, but I let my politics get involved like you said, and that was wrong.
My dad is a HVAC at Boeing that busts his ass, so I’m just a wee bit sensitive to the popular criticism of union laborers. Usually stuff bounces right off and I don’t take anything personally. Won’t happen again. Sorry for continuing the subthread.

Its too bad I chose to go to the Sunday game with the Felix vs. Zito match up.
I was going to say I missed my chance to see the guy pitch, then I remembered that I saw Randy pitch for Arizona vs. Florida in ’99.
That being said, I didn’t grow up with the 1995 Mariners, not even the 2001 Mariners. I started rooting for them in 2005 because they were the home town team after I moved here (opposite of what Red mentioned in his diary earlier, I tend to root for the home town team above all else, but I digress). I think while we do reflect on Big Unit’s accomplishments, we presently have an equally good, if not better pitcher in Felix, that we should cherish and not take for granted, or else he too might run away and win a World Series with someone else.

I like that virtually the entire M's Bench was standing to watch RJ pitch.
I feel kinda sad that the only game I watched him was a 2-0 blanking of the Twins, and I don’t remember anything from that game except “Holy crap he’s tall.”
And I think the blue Hydroplane won during one of the scoreboard races.
"It's Johnson time again" did it for me.

Just looking at some numbers.
I haven’t done the calculations but I’m 99% sure that in 2001, Randy Johnson had a WAR > 10 which is pretty amazing.
2001
IP: 249.2
ERA: 2.49
K/9: 13.4
BB/9: 2.6
HR/9: 0.68
FIP: 2.13!!!
BABIP: .328 (higher than average and he was still amazing)
Damn, I just looked at Pedro's numbers and his 1999 and 2001 are way more amazing
I know these guys are amazing but I hadn’t looked at them closely in a while. Its obsurd. Nobody is like them anymore. Halladay isn’t even close. In 1999 Pedro had a FIP of 1.39. Basically he had the year Johnson had but half the walks and home runs. Jesus, I don’t know if we realized how lucky to see these guys.

Those are fantastic
Thanks for posting ‘em. It’s like taking a trip in the Wayback machine…
24 is clearly the most perfect of numbers.
