On the hunt for an autograph in 2010...
Think back to Fan Appreciation Day 2003--we were just a week or so removed from contention for the AL West title, and on the verge of ending the season with 93 wins. We still were still riding the wave of the successes from the early 2000s seasons...(oh boy were we in for a big surprise next year...)...and we still had Mike Cameron for a couple more days.
Long story short, he hit a home run off the left field foul pole--as it would happen, it was his last home run in Seattle. I got the ball, but had to leave before the end of the game, so I never got a chance to get it autographed.
My question to you is this: what are some good strategies for trying to get the ball signed? Do I dare mail it? Should I try to brave the throngs of pink Boston hats at a Seattle-Sox game this year to try to get the mark in person? Any first-hand experience getting an autograph...if not from Cammy, then from another player? Is it harder to get a visiting player's autograph?
In other news, FELIX YAY!

I got a Aaron Sele autographed baseball card
i mailed that in and got it like 5 months later and that was after his last playing season. You should probably mail it in because we dont play the sox til july and you have a better chance of getting back by then.
I'd arrive very early to each game during the Red Sox series.
Cameron had a lot of love for Seattle & its fans, I’m sure he’ll be out there signing autographs come July.
This.
Plus at least with the visiting club, you get in the gates in time to see the visitors take BP/fielding drills. If he’s available it’d be easier to get him to sign something than a Mariner player. Get there early enough and it’d be easy to get down next to the field by the visitor’s dugout.
SHOW FiFi THE MONEY!!!!

I'm no autograph seeker, but...
if you mail something to a player, there’s a huge risk you’ll never get it back. I’d just wait the 7 months and get it signed in person if you can.
I recommend going to the game.
I live in Anaheim and when the Mariners would come in, Cammy was the only Mariner to come out before the game and give autographs. Very cool guy. Signed my mitt and a couple cards I believe.
I'm not much for autographs but you will be well served to send Cammy a letter right
now via the Red Sox. Let him know what ball you have and that you want it signed. I did this once and prearranged to meet the player when his team came to town. It was much easier than waiting in the autograph hunter throng.

The only time I tried to get an autograph was my Adam Jones jersey.
I just got there an hour and a half before the game, waited by the O’s dugout, and when he came out to sign autographs I waited until I got close and then just threw my jersey at him and then my pen. That’s about all it takes. I imagine Cameron would spend some time signing autographs.
Hey everyone, Follow me on Twitter!, check out My Baseball Blog, and Last.fm me!
Actually throwing something at a player without him instructing you to do so before hand is a good way to get security to end the autograph section
Thanks for the input, folks!
So far it sounds like going for the autograph this summer in person is the way to do it…and even if it makes no difference, perhaps I should go ahead and write him a letter to ask him if he’d oblige in a few months…
I would definitely write the letter.
Just don’t send the ball in the letter too because you may never get it back.
Like the other LLers mentioned
Get to the park early and it may not hurt to have a big ol Cammy sign so he notices you.
Did you fall in love with Miguel Batista? And he rejected you?
