Edgar Hall Of Fame Update

I don't mean to bury Matthew's excellent post below, but for those of you who're wondering, Baseball Think Factory is keeping a running tally of HoF ballots released to the public, and of those 68 to date, Edgar's a yes on 33. You can find many of the individual names of supporters and anti-intellectuals here.

33 out of 68 is 48.5%, well below the 75% threshold required for induction. It's also worth considering that that 48.5% may be inflated, as the ballots we've seen are more likely to have come from people familiar with the Internet and new media, and thus people more familiar with reasonable analysis. However, while Edgar's never going to make it as a first-ballot guy, he's getting a fair amount of initial support - more than many feared he would - and that should be a good harbinger of things to come. What once seemed little but a fantasy now appears like a legitimately possible outcome, and that's awesome. That's just awesome.*

* if you care. I wouldn't hold it against you if you don't, for a variety of reasons. I generally don't give a rip about the Hall of Fame myself, but then Edgar's involved, and Edgar's being involved could make me interested in milk.

Like you said Jeff maybe he won't make it for the first, second or even third ballot but Edgar definitely belongs in the HOF.

Wait, you may have been weaned too early. Milk is not weird.

Milk was your first food for like months. Milk is white, it’s creamy, it’s smooth. It’s like vanilla icecream. Milk is near perfect. Snow is weird. Snow is white, but it’s not creamy or smooth. It tastes like water (if you’re lucky). It tastes nothing like vanilla icecream. Milk and baseball you can trust. You can’t trust snow. Snow is weird.

There are hundreds (thousands?) of giant factories around the world that have machines and robots that are designed solely to squeeze dangly things on the underside of cows,

and bottle the stuff that comes out. There was a point in time not too long ago when a man would deliver it straight to your doorstep. There is a multi-billion dollar industry devoted solely to getting white liquid stuff from inside of cows nipples into our mouths. Milk is weird. Snow is maybe a little weird, but if you want to talk weather, clouds are weirder. Clouds are floating water that rise up from the oceans, floats inland and falls on you. I guess snow is a sub-category there.

I grew up on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania. Not a giant factory.

Machines yes, but no robots. The cows were content. The milk was good. It was and is good. Now, about clouds, you’re right, but my objection to clouds has more to do with their shapes. Why must they be so silly and/or violent and/or sexy? That’s just weird.

So this isn’t completely off topic, GO EDGAR! I don’t normally give a ^%$ about the HOF or any of the other awards, but I think it means something to the players and I do love Edgar, so I do think it’s important that he gets in because I do think he deserves it.

If you don't think it's weird that we habitually drink something that comes out of dangly things on the underside of another species then I don't know what else I can say.

Also, the fact that you grew up somewhere with neither robots nor factory-like qualities does not in any way disprove the existence of said robots and factories.

Very normal thing in the natural world.
What’s good for baby cows must be good for people! The people that sell milk have all these ads saying so!
All things being equal the less of it you consume the healthier you will likely be.
