Jim Rice is not impressed
Found this link on Posnanski's blog. It's a really long and well-thought-out post, so let me break it down for you if you don't have time:
1. Jim Rice has seen Zack Greinke pitch one time -- against the Red Sox the other day.
2. Zack Greinke is not as good as Pedro in his prime, so fuck him.
3. Jim Rice, HALL OF FAMER, has his blog hosted at Sullivan Tire and Auto Service's website.

More often than not I wish former athletes would just shut up

This one in particular. He always seems to have something to bitch about.
And sorry, Jim, but you never once in your career had a year as good as Greinke’s having. So I guess you never were dominant either?

I like it when they rant in general
about how things were better in their day – it’s amusing. But when they start talking about specific players it gets really irritating. Ask Pete Rose about Ichiro’s hits and watch the sparks fly!

The Ironic thing is that due to the concentration of talent as the years progress
It’s almost a certainty that things were much worse in their day.

Take a look at the disclaimer
Sullivan Tire has the right to reject anything Rice puts up. So if he were to blog about how, thanks to Ed’s House O’ Tires, he was able to get a quick and easy repair job done when he was on a time crunch on the way to the game, Sullivan Tire and Auto Service could remove it.
Anyway, it’s a weird marketing tool for a tire company, considering Rice doesn’t write anything with any thought to it and even then he does so sparingly.

Because he was a very good baseball player.

He made pitchers pee their pants in fear every time he walked up to the plate.
(When they were done soiling their tight baseball pants, they proceeded to get him out at a pretty reasonable rate, but whatever.)
