On Major League Baseball's Selective Rule Enforcement
Part of MLB's response to the gladiator helmet petition, from section331's FanPost to the right:
That being said, Major League Baseball does not believe that the helmets belong either on the field of play or in any team areas such as the dugout or bullpen during the course of the game. While these helmets may be a symbolic motivator for the Mariners’ players, they serve no baseball-related purpose or function.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Great, now I’m tempted to write another letter….

What am I looking at exactly?
Is it the hat? It doesn’t serve any function for players not on the field.
Is it the necklace? Doesn’t have a purpose for anything.
Earing? Can’t tell if they are wearing one, but might as well include it.
Strange.
I didn’t get it either until you posted this. I’m guessing the person circled does not provide any baseball-related purpose or function.
Wait
You guys are joking, right?

I don't think so
I’m certainly clueless on this one.

The person circled is Carlos Silva.

If not...
While these helmets may be a symbolic motivator for the Mariners’ players, they serve no baseball-related purpose or function.
Then compare that to Silva.
You got slurved!
The problem is it's circling Silva's head.
And we’re talking about helmets.
That’s the source of confusion.
My Interpretation
“While these helmets may be a symbolic motivator for the Mariners’ players, they serve no baseball-related purpose or function.”
It was Carlos Silva that had the really crappy attitude towards Ichiro last year correct? If Ichiro is under the impression that Silva was the one blaming him for sucking, perhaps having Silva there would work as motivation for Ichiro to continue beasting in order to continually prove that Silva was wrong?
And of course, the already mentioned no baseball-related purpose or function joke.
Well done.
