Can someone explain to me how in the heck Morales got so good?
Two years ago he hit like Rey Ordonez, and last year he spends most of the year in AAA raking, but sucks in limited time in the bigs. Is this a lucky year or is this who he really is?
He's only 26 and has long been highly regarded

He's never been close to this good
His career minor league line was .333/.375/.529, which is good, but that translated to a .264/.296/.406 MLE. He’s shattering that right now.
Smoltz.

He has an unsustainably high BABIP but I think the point is that it's not like it's surpising he's hitting well.

It's .332 this year, which isn't *that* high
Most of it is that his ISO is .284, which is fucking ridiculous.

I have to imagine that he's at or has exceeded his power peak
He doesn’t really hit the most impressive home runs.

Is Johjima maybe getting the starts for Fister because he's got the best arm between our catchers?
I was just thinking about Fister and his off speed pitches, especially against a team with a reputation for running like the Angels.
Interesting point
From the ESPN game recap: “Seattle part-time C Kenji Johjima threw out Figgins trying to steal second in the first inning. It was Johjima’s 18th caught stealing, with only 16 stolen bases against him, a 53-percent success rate. The major league average is 29 percent”
By the way, jeez I hate that “part-time C” part. Sheesh!
Split time, personal catchers, whatever. I'm just curious if it affects the pitch calls in certain counts with men on base
He throws a lot of offspeed stuff in fastball counts.

We just don't know nobody expected him to be this good at all.
Scouts said he was meh his stats say he was meh.
You got slurved!
He's faced some pretty decent offensive teams this year and has done well.
I can’t explain it, but I’m more than happy to watch him pitch.

Intelligence eh?
Read SBN scouting report on Batista!
Scouting Report
Assets* Is highly intelligent, both on and off the field, and uses those smarts to pitch around hitters. His cut fastball can shut down the opposition.
Flaws
Has a tendency to outsmart himself at times when his pitches. At his worst, he leaves the ball up in the strike zone and gets tattooed.
Career Potential
A solid mid-rotation starter and good teammate
You got slurved!
What about Greg Maddux?
I think pitcher smarts go a long ways when we’re talking about control pitchers
Do you really think that Miguel Bautista is a smart pitcher?
And that his his main problem is outsmarting himself?
Smoltz.

There is a local radio guy who has mispronounced his name the last three years ...
I may be a little sensitive about it.
Jaime Moyer certainly didn't get by on his overpowering fastball.
Hard work never killed nobody, but I won't take my chances.
Fister, keep doing good stuff. It's confounding and really awesome.
Career Safeco Record: 7-2

Hey you can sponsor pitchers on Brooks Baseball
Doug Fister is available. Also the ump had a fat zone
Remember Jeff's description of Garret Olson
and how he look uncomfortable on the mound, wearing a baseball uniform, etc.? Fister looks just the opposite. He looks confident and like he belongs. He’s also definitely smart and knows when to use his pitches. Not likely he keeps getting these results, but it’s fun to watch him when he’s on.
So I hope Trevor Bell becomes a good pitcher.
He’s a great guy to banter with. I just hope that when he finally becomes a decent 3-4 starter, it’s for a team other than Anaheim. I’ve gotta say though, if you get a chance to talk to the guy down by the bullpen, he’s an absolute class act.
