There's no way to predict

Sometimes they give to a guy like Randy Johnson who dominate but only wins 17 games, sometimes they give it to a guy like Colon who is unremarkable but is the only 20 game winner, sometimes they pass up someone who is historically great like Clemens to give it to a run in the mill great pitcher like Chris Carpenter. There’s no logical pattern.

For those of you who care

Ichiro is now at 156 straight without going hitless in back-to-back games. It’s the second longest such streak all time. Stan Musial holds the record with 174.

Also, 12 hits to 2,000!!

I go to law school. Therefore, I have no life.

I don't get why Lopez plays so much closer to the second base bag than just about any other team's 2B.

If you’re ever at Safeco, just watch where he plays versus the opponent’s second baseman. It’s really weird. He’s positioned himself in that weird spot with about three different coaching staffs.

Me too.

Today was supposed to go:

Watch England win the Ashes
Watch Chelsea beat Fulham
Watch the M’s beat Cleveland (Felix accounts for my optimism here).

Still, two out of three ain’t bad.

Fuck Anaheim.

I made the mistake of reading the Times "Backtalk" column.

“All season the Mariners have been telling us it is “a new day” and there is a “new way.” Finally, there is really a plan in place, a Mariners way of doing business and playing the game that gave us some hope. I bought into it.

Then came last Saturday and Sunday.

Differences in the baseball cultures of the U.S. and Japan aside, one has to ask: Where in the baseball world is Ichiro’s attempted steal of third Saturday night not a bonehead play of biblical proportions? Ichiro was already in scoring position at second. It was the seventh inning, there were two outs, the M’s had two on and trailed by two, with one of leading home-run hitters in the American League at the plate, and one of the strongest armed catchers in baseball behind the dish. Ichiro gets himself thrown out by two steps in an absolutely pointless steal attempt.

Mr. Wakamatsu, if there is a new way, if there is now finally a Mariners way, why was Mr. Suzuki not riding the pine Sunday? Apparently there is a new way for everybody else and the same old way for Ichiro!"

by msb on Aug 23, 2009 12:19 PM PDT reply actions

While people like that are morons...

There was a pretty smart fellow who was also not opposed to benching him for that play.

Insult to injury--

after the game, Ichiro limping around the clubhouse with a sore calf, per Drayer

This game happened way too early :(

Not just for me, but the M’s too!
