Churchill's Mid-Season Top-30 M's Prospects (PDF)
1. Ackley, 2. Triunfel, 3. Moore, 4. Saunders, 5. Poythress, 6. Aumont, 7. JC Ramirez, 14. Halman,
11 of Churchill's top-30 were drafted, signed, or traded for under Zduriencik's leadership: 1. Ackley, 5. Poythress, 8. Fields, 13. James Jones, 17. Kyle Seager, 18. Mike Carp, 19. Nick Franklin, 20. Guillermo Pimentel, 21. Steven Baron, 23. Mauricio Robles, 25. Maikel Cleto
This doesn't include Derrick Saito or Dan Cortes, who were not on Churchill's list. I was surprised by this. I thought they'd be in the 20s.

We've got a lot of position prospects looking solid.
And oddly I am more excited about a franchise DH being somewhere among them than anything else. Carp, Liddi, and Raben leading the way in that department.
We haven't signed our best prospect yet

Only if Felix is still here in 2012.
I was at Shea for the Felix-Slam!
Personal M's record: 5-4.

Even if it means the Mariners winning the World Series causes the world to end?

I was confused by Cortes not being on the list as well.
You got slurved!
The M's are why the suicide rates are so high in the PNW and Japan.
I think he wrote it before that trade.
He’s just releasing it to non-subscribers now.

And why?
Granted, it’s still an opinion piece and certainly everyone’s lists are going to be different. But, seriously – how much time have you spent talking to people who see these players themselves (in the case where YOU can’t see them yourself) or watched the people yourself to formulate your opinion (and, hence, build your list)?

I agree
Here’s how I look at it: If I want to look at our big-league club or the majors in general in an FIP, tRA, wOBA sense, I come here or go to USSM. If I want a scouting-based look at some players/prospects, I check out Churchill.
A brain surgeon may know a thing or two about open-heart surgery, but he’s not the guy I’m going to when I need an opinion on my chest pains…
Ackley isn't even signed, Triunfel's stock has dropped, Saunders behind Moore
I’m no expert but it seems odd.
So who were we going to draft 2nd again? Turner? Scheppers?
I find it really hard to take anything said at that site seriously anymore, and that’s probably unfair to Churchill but it’s his own damn fault.

Why so dismissive? This seems like a "Rec'd" comment without explaining why you recommended it.
Why is it a silly list? I’m very interested to hear other points of view on it.
I fucking hate you Mariners
Ackley at 1 before we sign him irks me.
If you want to say he’d rank 1 once he signs, that is one thing, but he is not our best prospect. Not yet.
Triunfel at 2 reads like a March 2009 reading and is in direct conflict with numerous sources that I trust a lot more than Churchill.
Adam Moore at 3 ahead of Michael Saunders? Don’t see it.
Aumont at 6 when his future looks set in relief? Too high and even Churchill says so.
Why someone like Tui and not Morrow? I think using arbitrary playing time cutoffs are silly.
Steven Baron, an all glove catcher, and Dennis Raben, a guy whose knees might never let him play the field, are ahead of both Robles and Gillies? Odd.
Churchill says he left off Cortes because
I just don’t know enough, don’t have enough to put a ranking next to his name and feel right about it… If I absolutely had to rank him, Cortes would probably slide into the 13th or 14th slot. Why should I take a list seriously when he open admits to leaving potential top 15 talents off it?
Better, thanks!
I disagree with Churchill a hell of a lot more than I agree with him, FWIW…

Agreed. But I do enjoy some of his insights.
I fucking hate you Mariners
I enjoyed this list because of the insight, not the numbers he tagged on the individual players.
Which is the way it should be.
Exactly...
While we will always argue with order and names, and the list can (and should) fluctuate frequently, the insight behind the list is why it’s got some value.
To dismiss it as ridiculous, when there’s been a ton of effort and first-hand direct gathering of info (rather than looking at numbers and someone else’s third-hand info) is, well…
…Silly.

I never said anything about the write ups in the list, Paul.
I only said the list was silly, which I think is pretty obviously referring to the rankings only given that is what Decatur posted.
In your own words...
Churchill says he left off Cortes because

This implies you’ve read the list and the commentary and still dismissing it as silly…

But, hey - I'm done discussing this with you...
You obviously have a problem with Churchill and this is you’re site and agree to disagree with you on that opinion.

Well I heartily disagree with your representation.
For what its worth, I was still solely speaking to the rankings themselves, which I do think was still clearly obvious.
But I cannot control how others interpret what I write. I can only seek to clarify when asked.

Very nice.
One of my all-time favorite movie scenes. Matt Damon is a genius and the look on George Clooney’s face at the end is priceless.
I didn't find it obvious at all.
In general, Matthew, I think your curtness often does you a disservice, but maybe that’s just me.
I don't really love Jason, either
But seriously, what’s the point of this comment? If you hate the guy that much, start a blog.
