How did Snell have the same contribution as Felix did last night?
2 strikeouts and 3 walks compared to 9 and 1? Felix pitched seven innings?

All that matters as far as WPA is concerned are outcomes

So someone could go five innings, walk five guys but only give up one run, get the win
and still have the same WPA as Felix did?

It's situational, scoreless innings in tie games are more valuable than when it isn't tied.
It’s all about what leverage each batter gave to the game, and the closer the game, the more the leverage. Snell pitched 4 innings in a tie, Felix pitched 1. Not to mention, giving up a run when you’re up 3 – 0 decreases your winning expectancy alot less than giving up a run when it’s 0 – 0.
Not that Snell actually pitched all *that* well
but he got the good outcomes and he got the win, and that should generate some goodwill for him . . . and the folks who’ll look deeper than that are pretty much on his side anyway.

Hm...
….how many games did we win last year?
2009 has been a very enjoyable year….
Yeah.
Even though I realize we’re a longshot to make the playoffs, I still heavily enjoy the fact the team is playing above .500 ball.

Justin Verlander looks a lot like Markus van der Wilke
Or what ever his name was from District 9

"But at this time of year, two plus two doesn't always add up to eight. Sometimes, it equals four." - Geoff Baker, Mariners beat writer.
