Mariners draft history, the good and bad
A recent article in the New York Times discussed the M's draft history, and I'm just trying to think how much more differently the Mariner's history would have gone if they had drafted their other choice, Mike Harkey. Seriously, without Griffey, 1995 probably doesn't happen, attendance craps out, and suddenly they're moving to Vancouver in 1998.
Of course, it mentions at the end of the article a certain leftfielder from Texas had a crappy tryout, and was passed over for Ryan Christenson. Check the article to find out who was missed out on, if you want to get depressed.

Did you know we drafted Harden in the 6th round and failed to sign him?

And we let David Ortiz go and we should have traded for Ryan Howard and drafted Tulowitzki and you-know-who!!!

I think draft regrets are stupid
Given that it’s proven to be kind of a crapshoot. That being said, I really wanted Tulo.

Every team has the picks they missed
In Crawford’s case, drafting him might have actually thrown a wrench in the works. With a all star caliber outfielder in the minors, do the Ms request Cameron when trading Griffey? Does Crawford keep the Mariners just good enough from 2002-2008 that Bill Bavasi keeps his job and Jack Zdiurencik is never hired? Having Crawford might have been nice, but a lot of things had to happen, and specifically go wrong, for the Mariners to be where they are now, which has everybody pretty happy, right?

Retro looking at the draft is pretty pointless most times.

Yup. Unless it was obvious at that point that it was a bad pick.
Whining about picking Clement or Morrow picks? Pretty much pointless. They were fine picks. But I can fully understand Pirates fans whining about Bullington and Padres fans whining about Matt Bush.

I'm so glad Lou left
"I remember Lou Piniella saying, ‘Now let me get this straight. Darren Dreifort is close to pitching in the big leagues right now, and we need bullpen help, right?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ And Lou said, ‘Then why are we even talking about that guy in Florida?’ I said, ‘Because he’s special.’"
