Jake Locker signs with Angels
I had heard it was going to happen. Can someone give me an explanation of how this isn't an NCAA violation? Are the Angels going to pay him a big signing bonus? Or does he not get it until he joins the organization?

I think this has something to do with why it isn't an NCAA violation.
By signing, Locker gives up his football scholarship and will now be a walk-on who will have to pay his own way
And he signed a baseball contract, not a football contract. I don’t think Locker is allowed to play NCAA Baseball because he has now lost his amateur status in the sport, but football is okay (although he gave up the scholarship).
Strange situation considering Locker could leave for the NFL and take the money from the Angels to pay for the rest of his college career and more. This is definitely a gamble on the Angels’ part.

I would love Jake Locker forever if he did that.

The Angels are in fact paying for the rest of his college.
I remember reading this when he was drafted that that would have to be part of him signing.

Paying for the rest of his college is a fairly minor cost compared to the signing bonus.

Then the odds are that you'll love him forever
because that’s most likely what will happen.

OK, so it's a distinction as far as the sport.
I guess I just assumed that, given how insanely strict the NCAA is about stuff like this, an athlete taking money from any professional sports organization would be a no-no.

No, the two-sport thing is well-established
Lots of guys have done this.

Tragic.
I hope he becomes a TE in the NFL tho.

TE?
If its not QB it will be a safety. The position Texas was recruiting him to play.

All that matters is that Oregon will go up to Seattle
and fuck up the Huskies again this year. What a pathetic excuse for a “football” team

I know right?
Maybe if we started wearing uniforms that were designed by AK1984’s sister like the Ducks do then maybe we would be good.

I swear to God that college football smack talk is the most retarded thing in the entire world.
Also Jesus Christ using quotes in such a manner is so Goddamned irritating and if I could go back in time and find out who was the first person to do it I would take them out in a heartbeat.

Yes because everyone here is a Husky fan

yeah, this was in poor taste
my apologies. I get a bit carried away waiting for the season to start.
In all seriousness, good on Locker for having a backup plan in case the football thing doesn’t work out. While I crack on the team for being a rival and not being very good, Locker is a heck of an athlete. I wish it wasn’t the Angels but, what the heck, he’s a Husky so I’m already used to hating him.
All that said, he’ll make it in the NFL. It might not be at QB, but he’s too good an athlete to fall flat there.
